About the Role
The Senior Research Engineer, Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics Integration will work on technology projects within Corporate R&D Advanced Body Domain, supporting the technical evaluation and due diligence of new developments in multiple areas of the complete vehicle including interior, exterior, BIW, closures and underbody.
Within these areas of Magna's Advanced Vehicle Systems organization, an emphasis will be placed on EE and integration developments of various HMI and Mechatronics components including ECU, sensors, actuators, switches, lighting, HVAC, instrument clusters, displays, infotainment, control systems and other innovative technologies being considered by Magna.
The Senior Research Engineer will plan, execute and coordinate all related activities for/with all other internal Corporate R&D Domains, Magna Group R&D departments, as well as external Supplier companies, institutions, and academia as needed.
Your Responsibilities
  • Capable of prioritizing and performing multiple advanced development studies correctly and efficiently in order to contain program timing.
  • Support the ideation process while identifying gaps in the current product or manufacturing technology to guide and provide future R&D efforts.
  • Analyze engineering results and propose product changes to determine feasibility, improvement of components and systems and functional/performance specifications.
  • Ability to understand and apply internal standards and procedures within the part or packaging design.
  • Attend meetings with internal/external customers, with respect to design reviews.
  • Confer with other Research Engineers to clarify or resolve problems and develop design solutions.
  • Lead, document, and present advances of the projects.
  • Collaborate with CAD Design Engineers and Designers for the generation of 2D/3D CAD data.
  • Technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks.
  • Assist as needed with the creation of DVPR and P/DFMEA documents.
  • Continuing education and/or training as technology evolves
  • Perform other duties as required.

Who we are looking for
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Science with focus on Hardware.
  • 8+ years of recent experience working on actual product development either as Researcher, Technical Lead, Product /System Architect, or a Developer.
  • Knowledge of mechatronic designs and their integration into various systems
  • Experience in the design, development, or integration of cutting-edge automotive electronics preferred.
  • Technical expertise in an automotive electronics quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Understanding of ISO 26262 and other industry/customer related standards related to Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process and assembly methods
  • Experience and knowledge of various materials (Metals, Plastics, Other)

Your preferred qualifications
  • Master of Science degree or higher in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Science with focus on Hardware
  • Experience working with ECAD tools to develop prototype hardware of electronic devices
  • Experience and knowledge of various materials (Metals, Plastics, Other)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct and control specific projects.
