SUMMARY
Responsible to deliver results on research and development initiatives regarding new products along with improving existing products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Have a clear understanding of the chemistry and metallurgical concepts and principles involved in the products that the company makes and sells.
· Manage and deliver results on assigned product development and product support projects in an effective and professional manner.
· Undertake appropriate training to enable tasks to be carried out in a safe manner.
· Maintain the highest standards of housekeeping in order to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
· Accurately and clearly communicate results in an appropriate format to the target audience, both technical and non-technical.
· Actively recognize and exploit opportunities for technical innovation.
· Actively seek to build and maintain appropriate relationships with other departments, and with suppliers, customers and universities.
· Recognize, promote and exploit opportunities for self-development and development of team members.

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have an entrepreneurial mindset to drive results and a strong technical background and be competent in the design/implementation of experiments and product testing.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Extractive Metallurgy, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering is preferred with 10 years of industrial experience.
MATHMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
COMPUTER APPLICATION SKILLS
Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Statistical software e.g. Mini-tab.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to engage in independent thinking. Must be internally motivated, proactive, and able to perform the duties with a minimum of supervision.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms to sample materials; climb in or balance on process equipment, containers of materials; stoop or crouch to access chemical reagents and laboratory equipment; smell to identify materials. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
