Position: Senior Quality Engineer (Aerospace)
Location: Hauppauge, NY

The Senior Aerospace Quality Engineer is responsible for leading a team of Quality and Engineering personnel to identify non-conforming products, determine remediation activities, manage and control root cause analysis and corrective actions, drive quality improvements in the manufacturing processes, and ensure that finished assemblies meet the requirements established for products to pass part assembly qualifications, with end product functioning as designed in their end-use. This position is a project-based role for 6+ months with the opportunity to become full-time.
Responsibilities
- Drive improvement of product quality and manufacturing processes with qualitative increased output
- Function in a leadership role in the development of quality systems, methods and metrics
- Develop and approve quality inspection plans and methods
- Improve product quality through data analysis and process improvement recommendations
- Work with different departments and teams to correct quality issues and improve manufacturing processes
- Function as the team leader for the company's Zero Defect Program
- Perform internal and external audits to conform with AS 9100 requirements
- Develop and maintain a part tracker / phase gate plan for each part from development to completion of qualification
- Perform APQP evaluations and part qualification inspections to ensure components and end products meet design, regulatory and customer requirements
- Develop and/or manage the RMA, and AR program for both customer and supplier issues though the use of QNs, CARs, SCARs, etc.
- Review and validate non-conformances and develop containment and long term corrective actions, using quality problem solving tools (8D, 5 why, Ishikawa, FRACAS)
- Work with suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and remediate quality and/or delivery issues
- Manage and/or perform calibrations of critical monitoring or inspection devices
- Collect, collate and analyze test and inspection data and report any quality anomalies to the responsible department and executive management, as appropriate
- Report organizational KPIs and QMS status with improvement recommendations to Executive Management
- Lead and/or participate in Material Review Boards and Corrective Action Review Boards
- Identify, recommend and manage quality monitoring or in process inspection equipment and methods
- Develop and assist in the installation and implementation of manufacturing and/or quality processes and procedures
- Other tasks, assignments, and/or duties as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
- 7+ years in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the Aerospace Electromechanical industry
- 5+ years in a Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering role
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Six Sigma Black Belt certification required
- 3+ years utilizing Lean and Six Sigma tools and CI principles
- Experience in APQP methodology (PPAP, FAIR, MTR, DFMEA, PFMEA, CP)
- Knowledge and experience with quality analysis software (Minitab, JMP, QiMacro, Spc for Excel, etc.)
- Familiar with AS 9100 Aerospace Quality Management System
- Knowledge of CMM and other technical inspection devices
- Understand QSys and provide compliance to review of customer POs for manufacturing flow down
- Solid understanding of GDT and the ability to read and understand engineering blueprints and technical specifications
- Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, from operator to executive management
- Strong analytical problem solving skills, using Six Sigma and quality analytical tools
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of International Traffic of Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- AS 9100 Lead Auditor certification
