Job description

About Exygy

At Exygy, we believe that digital innovation is key to fostering resilient and healthy communities. Our products - CiviForm and Bloom Housing - are designed to streamline the process of connecting residents to government social services and housing opportunities, respectively. We are a team of strategic thinkers and problem-solvers driven by the impact technology can have on society.

Exygy is a diverse team bringing a breadth of technical expertise, user-centric perspectives, and product strategy to every engagement. As a certified B-Corporation, we are driven by our fierce commitment to the betterment of humanity.

Position Overview:

As the Senior Growth Specialist for Civic Tech / Social Benefits Products, you will partner with our leadership team to grow the CiviForm customer base within the Public Sector. You will craft a growth strategy and deliver against it, supported by your CiviForm teammates. This role involves understanding the complexities of government procurement, building relationships, and leveraging digital marketing strategies to cultivate a strong pipeline of customers for CiviForm and future Civic Tech products. While this role will sit on the Exygy Growth team and report to the VP of Growth, you will be embedded on the CiviForm delivery team and collaborating closely with the CiviForm Director of Product. This role will provide an opportunity to exchange learnings and best practices across Exygy's business lines, and also include touchpoints with Exygy Senior Leadership including our CEO and COO. This role will leverage close collaboration with Exygy's other Civic Tech-product team, Bloom Housing, because the growth strategies for Bloom and CiviForm are expected to intersect regularly due to their similar customer base, business models, and development/commercialization approach.

This role is best suited for a highly entrepreneurial / intrapreneurial individual. While CiviForm has been successfully deployed in multiple jurisdictions and has gained the support of a fantastic initial funder, we have not yet won our first paying customer for the product. Exygy has proven that we can win paying customers for Civic Tech products -- our Bloom Housing product is earning millions per year in revenue. We are confident that there is a large market for CiviForm, and this role's job is to prove out that market and win our first ~3 paying customers. To do so, you must be able to experiment, lead, strategize, and adjust. Your success will be measured by your ability to succeed in your primary responsibility: win new paying customers for CiviForm. This is a 0-to-1 role, helping us to define what "a sustainable business model for CiviForm" means by first proving the market, and then building a foundation to scale.

The CiviForm Product:

Local, State, and Federal systems for accessing government services in the U.S. are incredibly complex and antiquated. Each year, people spend over 10 billion hours completing government forms, and individuals looking to apply for public benefits encounter one barrier after another. These barriers lead to over $80 billion in funded benefits going unclaimed every year. CiviForm was built to simplify the way residents find and apply for public assistance programs and help government teams better reach communities in need.

CiviForm is a free, open-source software solution for governments that was originally developed by the City of Seattle with pro bono support from the Google.org Fellowship program. Today, CiviForm is actively in use or in preparation for launch in the cities of Seattle, Bloomington, and Charlotte, and across the State of Arkansas! The project is now stewarded by Exygy and is collectively developed and maintained by the governments that use it.
What you will be doing:
    • Develop and execute a revenue strategy aimed at introducing and expanding CiviForm's footprint in the government sector.
    • Build and maintain a robust list of potential government customers and consistently engage with them to turn them into active leads.
    • Represent Exygy at conferences and events, proactively networking and sparking interest in CiviForm.
    • Execute effective online outreach through LinkedIn, email campaigns, and digital marketing.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to produce compelling content that highlights the benefits of CiviForm.
    • Navigate and manage complex government procurement cycles and procurement processes.
    • Partner with the CiviForm delivery team, especially the CiviForm Director of Product, to refine and develop the product offering, including establishing tiered packages, competitive pricing strategies, subscription models, and fee structures to meet various government customer needs.
    • In collaboration with the CiviForm Delivery team, engage with CiviForm's current customer base to capture valuable insights on customer/government needs and satisfaction, fostering relationships that transform satisfied customers into advocates for our platform and help drive further adoption among potential government clients.
    • In collaboration with the CiviForm Delivery team, nurture our strong collaborative partnership with CiviForm's existing funder, coordinating strategically to stay informed about lead generation activities, providing updates on business development progress, and nurturing a relationship of mutual trust and shared objectives.
    • When you win new CiviForm customers, playing at-least-some of the Account Manager role, to manage that customer's happiness as the delivery team implements. We expect that in the future we will hire dedicated Account Management capacity for CiviForm -- but until we have a critical mass of a few paying customers, this will be a shared responsibility across CiviForm leadership.
What you'll bring:
    • A background in policy and/or previous work as a government employee and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities for government technology that builds trust and empathy between residents and civic entities, agencies, and providers
    • Extensive experience in business development and sales operations with a proven track record of digitizing governments and commercializing software / technical projects with civic entities.
    • Knowledge of the CivicTech space, including knowledge of stakeholder, funding ecosystem,  and trends in the CivicTech market
    • Well versed in government procurement portals/databases, proposals, interviews, and processes.
    • The ability to build, nurture, and maintain a strong network digitally and in-person through events, activities, presentation and other forms of communication.
    • Versatility in creating and managing  both in-person and virtual business development  operations.
    • Ability to develop a clear vision and the skillfulness to bring strategic goals into action and implementation across internal and external stakeholders
    • Excellent project, task, and time management skills
    • Ability to translate technical solutions into meaningful impact narratives for a variety of audiences, especially civic entities
    • A well balanced mission-driven and business-minded personality that will enable you to represent Exygy's mission to use design and technology to improve lives - upon on a foundation of understanding / realism: that winning funding for our work enables our impact.
    • An understanding of marketing tactics and creativity in storytelling opportunities to bridge the power of digital services and government technology in increasing access to public benefits

What we prefer to see in a candidate:
    • Experience with philanthropic fundraising, especially for tech initiatives including: developing relationships with funders / program officers; creating new philanthropic funding opportunities; researching and understanding philanthropic priority areas and positioning our work such that it speaks to those priorities; researching, identifying, applying for, and winning grant requests and proposals. As a nice-to-have, you'd be pursuing potential philanthropic funding opportunities to support CiviForm initiatives.
    • Experience selling SaaS-like products, including some combination of implementation, subscription, and add-on services.
    • Passion for storytelling and marketing in the social impact, tech for good, and mission-driven movement
    • Prior professional experience working in government.
    • Lived experience navigating Social Benefits programs and/or experience working in case management supporting others to navigate Social Benefits.
What we offer:
    • A dynamic role with a significant impact on community betterment through technology.
    • The opportunity to be an entrepreneurial leader in a mission driven organization that highly values and supports creative, driven, adaptive humans like you.
    • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
    • An inclusive and collaborative culture that fosters professional growth and development.
    • An environment that values innovation, efficiency, and social impact.

    • Exygy has embraced a work from home philosophy and we are now a remote-first company. Exygy remains connected and engaged with: annual all team retreats and regular mini-team retreats; virtual team events; weekly all hands meetings; and regular Zoom workshops and trainings. This role can be located anywhere in the U.S. This role may require regular travel for conferences and events, to build relationships with potential customers.
$100,000 - $110,000 a year
