This posting is for a member of the Integrated Product Development (IPD) Team for the JSF Actuation components for the Pratt & Whitney East Hartford (PWEH) Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-135 engine. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the coordination of the design, fabrication, procurement, assembly, testing and sustainment of the Actuation components.
The successful candidate will have familiarity with valves, actuators, and mechanical components, in general, as well as basic working knowledge of control systems. Must have the ability to apply mechanical / hydro-mechanical principals to analyze hardware, recommend corrective action, conduct engineering investigations and develop/conduct tests. Good oral and written skills, coupled with a strong grasp of all Microsoft Office products and MS Project tools are necessary, along with the ability to work in a team environment.
This position may be eligible for relocation.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the management and closure of all suppliers interfacing related activities including fabrication processing issues, Flight Safety Frozen Process Review Board deliverables and the following Collins processes:
  • Quality Notifications (QNs)
  • Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Request for Information (SRIs)
  • Coordinating all Collin's Class 2 Engineering Change (EC) activities in the Collin's PLM system for all drawings, specs & solid models associated with JSF Actuation hardware involving Collin's Windsor Locks designed components.
  • Coordinate and execute JSF Actuation product line improvements relative to documented assembly and Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) test issues & turn backs.
  • Drive project execution of technical requirements to budget and schedule through implementation of the Collins Management System (CMS), Earned Value Management System (EVMS) processes and the IPD Team process.
  • Drive and implement Relentless Root Cause & Corrective Action (RRCA) processes, using the applicable ACE tools to ultimately facilitate design integrity improvements and enhanced Engineering Standard Work (ESW) practices.
  • Coordinate all necessary PWEH Configuration Change Board / Engineering Change Proposal (CCB/ECP) activities required in support of facilitating Collin's Class 1 ECs.
  • Provide staffing plans using the Collins Manpower Planning Tool (Cobra), including detailed plans through all engineering disciplines, which meet project milestones and budget.
  • Facilitate the redesign, fabrication, procurement, assembly and testing of the following supplier designed JSF Actuation Electromechanical Interface Devices (EMIDs) which result from RRCA activities:
  • Electrohydraulic Servo Valves (EHSVs)
  • Linear Voltage Displacement Transducers (LVDTs)
  • Solenoids
  • Coordinate activities with Collin's Supply Chain Management and the Mechanical Engine Systems (MES) Operations team to meet JSF LRIP Production "War on Cost" hardware cost reduction targets.
  • Coordinate and execute JSF F-135 CIP (Component Improvement Program) EPD (Engineering Project Description) Tasks and deliverables focused on improving recognized actuation hardware design shortfalls and improving overall component service reliability.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience working with Hydraulic Actuation Systems, Fuel Controls and/or similar mechanical products.
  • Experience in working and leading IPD teams, creating project plans, performing risk assessments, and working resource plans necessary for successful program operation.
  • Experience managing a program utilizing an Earned Value Management System.
