Description
This position is responsible for professional and administrative work in complex planning and transportation activities. Responsibilities also include organizing and coordinating the advanced and more complex studies, analyzing research data and preparing written summary reports. Work is performed under the guidance of the Planning Manager and the Assistant Director of Development Services and is reviewed through reports, conferences, and results attained.

Transportation Responsibilities:
- Identifies solutions and coordinates efforts to meet ongoing transportation and transit needs and issues.
- Works with members of the industry, local, County and State agencies and various departments within the city to formulate policies, procedures and programs relating to transportation issues.
- Coordinates, prepares and submits projects to obtain local and state funding from Transportation Surtax, Complete Streets & Localized Initiatives Program (CSLIP). Monitors program funding and prepares reports and presentations on the progress and success of the applications.
- Meets with development professionals, developers, outside agencies, and the public regarding development proposals or other problems thus serving in a key liaison role for transportation issues.
- Reviews and analyzes site plans to determine compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances and regulations in coordination with the city's traffic engineering consultant.
- Creates, implements and maintains systems for tracking and monitoring progress, including conducting surveys and other outcome-based performance measures to achieve the city's and neighborhood vision.
- Represents the city and works as key liaison to partner and coordinate transportation and transit planning program activities with planning organizations, councils, boards, and other state agencies, local governments, consultants, and general public, including, but not limited to the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Traffic Coordinating Committee (TCC), and Broward County School Board Working Group.
- Coordinates with the County and contractors to administer the Community Shuttle Program. Submits required reporting to the County.
- Provides technical assistance and answers public inquires regarding transportation and transit issues, programs, and projects.
- Coordinates and implements Traffic Management Team meetings.
- Develops, administers and monitors city's Traffic Calming program.
- Serves as Title VI Coordinator.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Transportation, Public Administration, or other directly related field. Master's Degree preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in community development, transportation planning or engineering, including federal and state grant programs or transportation management programs; grants management and GIS experience preferred but not required.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
