JOB DESCRIPTION: Senior Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development
Overview: The Sr. Mechanical Engineer performs functions that lead to the improvement of current products or the development and launch of New Products and components. This individual has a good knowledge of moderately complex engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager but can function primarily independently, with some instruction and guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Independently design moderately complex products.
- Analyze moderate design problems to determine the root cause and then implement corrective actions.
- Possess working knowledge of associated regulatory standards and ensure that products meet the required specifications.
- Independently design test fixtures for New Product or component validation and or production.
- Independently develop and carry out test procedures for evaluating the integrity of a product or system.
- Supervise the work of lab technicians to execute lab test plans.
- Interface with other departments to bring moderately complex products or changes into production.
- Develop product, component, and process specifications.
- Develop and maintain bills-of-materials.
Requirements:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Accreditation in DFSS and DFM is desired.
- 3+ years of experience creating complex 3-D models/assemblies and accurately detailed 2-D drawings using Solidworks, ProE, or similar software, with at least 2 years in the water treatment industry.
- Working knowledge of GD&T.
- Able to perform typical mechanical design hand calculations, including material stress, deflection, forces, moments, fluid flow rates, pressure, O-ring squeeze, etc. Water treatment or fluid handling product launches are preferred.
- Capable of using and understanding the results of FEA & CFD tools.
- Solid understanding of design practices for a broad range of production/fabrication processes, including plastic injection molding, thermoforming, roto-molding, blow-molding, casting, machining, sheet metal, etc.
- Solid understanding of the function and specification of mechanical & electromechanical components, including pumps, valves, O-rings/seals, solenoids, motors, etc.
- Capable of troubleshooting mechanical issues at on-site customer locations.
- Up to 20% travel.
