We are seeking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer within our Oil, Gas & Chemical Global Practice in our Kansas City, MO office!
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support projects in a variety of industry sectors, including the strategic areas of renewable fuels and carbon capture/reduction. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical designs according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will support projects in a variety of industry sectors, including the strategic areas of renewable fuels and carbon capture/reduction. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical designs according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Specialize in heat Transfer Equipment and perform thermal and mechanical design of mechanical equipment such as shell and tube heat exchangers, air-cooled heat exchangers, and/or plate and frame heat exchangers
- Prepare technical bid & purchase documents based on process datasheets, client specifications, and industry codes and standards
- Review vendor equipment bids and prepare technical bid evaluations
- Review vendor drawings and other documentation and regularly meet, correspond, and coordinate with equipment vendors
- Apply specialist knowledge of commonly used mechanical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
- Interface and coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines to meet project design requirements and effectively manage the internal flow of data and design changes
- Performs inter-discipline document reviews, such as P&IDs
- Provide field installation support for client and construction personnel and have an interest in troubleshooting machinery, and in pre-commissioning and start-up support.
- Provide mentoring of personnel in heat Transfer Equipment design and add responsibilities such as the opportunity oversee execution of the above activities performed by less-experienced engineers
- Participate sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
- Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
- Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
- Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
- Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience
- 7 years of mechanical engineering experience with industrial heat exchanger design and software such as HTRI, Aspen Plus, HYSIS, or BJAC
- Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Previous EPC industry consulting experience and/or exchanger fabrication, operations or maintenance/reliability experience is considered a plus.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as API, PIP and ASME
- Must be eligible for TWIC
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
