Description:

The position of the Senior Mechanical Engineer is a multifaceted role that includes the development, design, improvement, and support of mechanical processes for new and existing industrial systems as well as to provide leadership, mentorship and experience to junior process engineers and designers. This role will require the ability to manage teams for various projects.

In terms of leadership, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be expected to assist the Engineer Manager in department management functions such as but not limited to individual employee development and reviewing projects. He or she will assess project feasibility, cost, and timelines. They will prepare and review P&ID’s, flow diagrams, isometrics, and other engineering drawings.

Being client-centered, this role requires the employee to function as a consultant to clients on an ongoing basis. They are expected to have extensive industry knowledge and can potentially manage a project from start to finish including estimation, sourcing, scheduling, troubleshooting, completion and continued follow up with clients to further business arrangements. They are expected to lead in research and help develop solutions for clients.


Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Evaluates customer requirements, conducts trade studies, specifies system components or product modifications.
  • Develops vendor technical requirements and monitors vendor performance to plan.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
  • Collaborate with cross functional team to ensure work meets overall project objectives.
  • Research and analyze client requests associated with process or mechanical design.
  • Supervise projects independently of direct supervision.
  • Design concepts, drawings, equipment specifications and control concepts for industrial processes including piping and heat transference.
  • Participate in planning, cost development and scheduling for projects.
  • Generate analyses, specifications, cost estimates, and estimated construction schedules for projects.
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, and relevant stakeholders on projects.
  • Create and edit existing P&ID’s, isometric and other engineering drawings.
  • Provide on-site support of projects as well as follow up support as needed.
  • Participate in team project meetings.
  • Prepare technical information and presentations for peers, teams and clients.
  • Conduct meetings with teams, groups and clients.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 10 years’ Engineering, Design, and/or Plant Engineering experience working with industrial process/utility equipment systems.
  • Must be willing to obtain Professional Engineering License.
  • Experience in facility design including piping design, pump and compressors, safety systems, storage tanks, and heat exchangers.
  • Ability to function with minimal direction. Escalates issues as appropriate with the required level of urgency.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and critically evaluate design drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain quality service while under pressure.
  • High level of conscientiousness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multidiscipline team setting and with clients.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level of conscientiousness and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as AutoCad and Bluebeam.
  • Must be an American Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
