Job description

The Senior Materials Scientistwill be within New Product Development and Advance Concepts group and a member of Global Technology and Innovation team. The team is seeking Materials Scientist to bring their fundamental and deep understanding of chemistry, physics, and polymer science. This role will be working on multiple projects that will require the application of fundamental knowledge of materials to develop novel solutions needed to launch our products on time and with superior quality. Typical tasks will involve root cause analysis, researching new technologies, working with industry partners to modify/ develop new polymers, finishing chemistries to assess feasibility for developing products and process optimization.

_ Duties and Responsibilities _

  • Assume the role as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) in polymer materials development in textile applications including finishing chemistries and resin systems to develop groundbreaking solutions in final product.
  • Lead development projects in support of our long-term goals of innovating through the use/development of advance or novel material solutions.
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing new material solutions to advance existing technologies and/or further develop new technology to further Primaloft’s business objectives.
  • Formulation creation and hands on experience of wide variety of standard analytical tools, analysis and data interpretation and ability to make recommendations based on the results.
  • Interacting with customers, key strategic partners (including corporations, universities, national labs and suppliers on materials development projects).
  • Track and report new development project progress including relevant data, documentation, and analysis & recommendations.
  • Support process optimization for new materials working closely with Technical engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and identification on Materials and Processing challenges in end product.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum BS in Materials Science, Chemical engineering, Polymer engineering, Chemistry, or similar field from an accredited college or university. An advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) is highly preferred but equivalent relevant experience can be as or more valuable.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Polymers and Polymer chemistryalong with strong understanding of polymer reaction chemistry
  • 10+ years of experience working with modifying and developing polymer/resin/finishing chemistries. With an advanced degree, 5 or 7+ years of relevant experience will also be acceptable. Knowledge of textile fibers, spin finish and resin chemistries as end use application will be a solid plus.
  • Hands on experience with standard analytical tools (FTIR, DMA, DSC, Rheometry etc. and ability to interpret the analysis).
  • Working knowledge of statistics, excel, word and presentation software required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with ability to manage projects independently.
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience writing materials’ standards desired.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to an ever-changing environment. Self-starter and independent problem solver.

Work Environment and Physical requirements

  • Job position will be located in US based out of Latham, NY
  • Will require travel to vendors, manufacturing facilities and occasionally to customers for development and implementation projects. Travel will be both domestic and international up to 25%
  • High paced work environment with ability to perform multiple tasks with effectiveness and efficiency.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
