Job Summary
Avantor is seeking a Sr. Manager, EHSS&S to provide tactical and strategic direction for the NuSil organization and collaborate with NuSil leadership. The role will also coordinate key decisions & activities with the EHSS&S Americas Team.
This role will be a full-time position based out of our Carpinteria, CA office. You will have the opportunity to be the interface between Avantor EHSS&S and the overall NuSil organization and to support multiple sites: Bakersfield CA, Carpinteria CA, Chino CA, and Irving TX.
What we're looking for:
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in sciences, occupational safety, engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience, 5 years in a leadership role
  • Experience in the chemical or pharma industry desired.
  • Certification(s): CSP, CIH, HAZWOPER, and other professional certifications a plus.
  • Additional Qualifications:
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA PSM regulation and process safety programs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, production, distribution, and general chemical/pharma industry.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills.
  • Working knowledge of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to Bakersfield & Chino sites and as needed to Irving TX site.

How you will thrive and create an impact:
  • Develop and implement EHS & Process Safety plans for manufacturing facilities under his/her accountability, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations and company standards.
  • Coordinate with the NuSil business unit, Avantor EHSS&S, and other applicable functions in creating & promulgating new environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability standard operating procedures (SOP's), and maintain existing SOPs in accordance with the company-wide compliance leadership team.
  • Manage the development and administration of programs to ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Identifies and appraises risk conditions which could produce occupational injuries or illnesses.
  • Evaluate potential extent of injuries resulting from accidents and classifies particular workstations.
  • Cooperate with employees' council or labor union in the field of occupational health and safety.
  • Ensure training for employees entering work areas of the organization.
  • Manage a large team of experienced professionals with a focus on policy and strategy implementation, as well as implementing short-term operational plans.
  • Work closely with business & sites leaders to instill a world class EHS culture focusing on active leadership and associates' participation, striving to ensure regulatory compliance, eliminate process safety events, occupational injuries, and environmental incidents.
  • Provide direct leadership and management to sites EHS professional, to develop and implement EHS improvement plans based on regulatory obligations and company standards.
  • Engage with manufacturing VP's/directors, site managers and regional EHS teams/Subject Matter Experts, to develop and maintain a strong PSM implementation program in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Develop and maintain an EHS profile (Risks - Improvement Plans) for each site to ensure visibility and transparency of compliance and risk reductions, in conjunction with Site Manager and the Americas EHS Director
  • Develop and report key performance indicators (KPI's) to provide the necessary visibility and transparency of EHS performance and improvement plan progress, in conjunction with the Americas EHS Director
  • Deliver EHS improvement plans and develop a positive culture for continuous improvement, performance and behavior promoting the implementation of best practice.
  • Establish regional work priorities and resourcing strategies, in conjunction with manufacturing VP's/directors, site managers, regional EHS teams/Subject Matter Experts, and the Americas EHS Director
  • Identify needs of professional EHS & PSM support for each manufacturing facility in conjunction with site managers and define a program of support with Corporate EHS/PSM shared services team.
  • Provide direct management and deliver coaching/training plan to site EHS professionals to build & maintain their professional capabilities.
  • Lead selected networks to share best practices, positive and improvement opportunities, leverage knowledge and experience to drive towards a Zero-Harm Culture.
  • Manage Third Party EHSS&S external consultants.
  • Manage hazardous waste programs and ensure that hazardous waste is stored and transported in accordance with applicable rules. Ensure that associates who handle hazardous waste are trained in accordance with applicable rules.
  • Serve as EHSS&S point of contact for government, customer, and internal safety audits.

Pay Transparency:
The expected pre-tax pay for this position is
$127,500.00 - $212,500.00
Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
