Senior Magnet Engineer

Cryomagnetics is looking for a talented and self-motivated individual to join its team as Senior Magnet Engineer. As part of our team you will be a leader in the design and development of advanced superconducting magnets and systems.

This position involves:

• Design of high field solenoids, split pairs, and multipole magnets with a wide variety of coil geometries
• Assisting in the detailed design of machined components and manufacturing drawings with GD&T using commercial 3D CAD systems (SolidWorks)
• Assisting in the development of fabrication processes
• The ability to use typical hand tools and measuring equipment, calipers, voltmeters, etc.
• Collaborating with other engineering and manufacturing team members and customers to ensure specifications are met
• Participation in final magnet system testing
• Maintaining high quality documentation at all stages of magnet development

The position requires:

• MS or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• An understanding of basic electronic circuits
• An understanding of mechanical design principles and CAD software
• Excellent communication skills
• The ability to travel occasionally (10-15%) for technical conferences, customer installations, etc.

• Convey instructions and advanced concepts to people with various backgrounds and experience levels, both on-site and at customer institutions
• Work on projects requiring skills ranging from advanced theoretical topics to hands-on work on the shop floor

Desirable qualifications:

• Coding experience in at least one of the following languages: Matlab/Octave, Python, Java
• Familiarity with commercial software programs such as SolidWorks, Vector Fields / Opera, COMSOL, Inventor, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Advanced mathematics skills in trigonometry, linear algebra, and approximation methods
