Position Overview

Navistar has an exciting opportunity for a Senior LeadEnvironmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in Tulsa, OK.

The Senior LeadEnvironmental Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing and monitoring safety and/or environmental programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Senior Lead EHS Specialist will also monitor industrial health compliance. This role will report to the Manufacturing Operations Director. The normal working hours are Monday to Thursday from 5am to 4pm.

The Tulsa Bus Plant manufactures school buses and commercial buses on multiple capacity chassis with several engine types. Typical CE Series buses have capacity of 29 - 78 passengers and are built with diesel, propane and gasoline engines. RE (Rear Engine) Series models have capacity up to 90 passengers and are built with Cummins L9 diesel engines. Our buses are built with the highest safety and quality standards in the industry. 

Responsibilities
  • Partner with cross-functional department managers in the plant to help maintain, achieve, and improve the environmental conditions in the area
  • Partner with the Health & Safety department to create and maintain a strong Environmental, Health and Safety culture
  • Ensure that all yearly environmental permits (TCEQ, SWPPP, SPCC plan) are submitted for approval and coordinate ISO14001 and 50001 certification
  • Facilitate Environmental training classes
  • Develop environmental strategies, plan and execute projects. Provide expertise to projects and key risk areas
  • Perform environmental assessments and studies
  • Collaborate with Navistar's Corporate environmental team on North America strategies and initiatives
  • Accountable for compliance with all applicable regulatory, plant and corporate EHS, OSHA & Security related policies and procedures
  • Establish environmental goals for the facility and develop programs to achieve the goals
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly monitoring of environmental measurements and reporting these numbers to plant and corporate
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and resourcing environmental services in alignment with Manufacturing 4.0 principals
  • Maintain and promote a team relationship within the site operations team
  • Conduct water and environmental quality testing in an outdoor environment
  • Execution and monitoring of Plant's Waste Management Plan
  • Work with local government organizations
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 8 years of Environmental Health and Safety experience in manufacturing facility
  • 1 year of lead experience

OR

  • Master's degree
  • At least 6 years of Environmental Health and Safety experience in manufacturing facility
  • 1 year of lead experience

OR

  • At least 10 years of Environmental Health and Safety experience in manufacturing facility
  • 1 year of lead experience
Additional Requirements
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills
  • Environmental engineering degree
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
  • Experience in auditing, compliance assurance, air quality, wastewater, chemical management, liquid storage, waste handling and industrial safety compliance
  • Experience with the plant personnel to focus on safety, health, and environmental aspects of the business
  • Shown Ability to adapt well to change and implementation of new EH&S policies and procedures
  • Experience on the shop floor to ensure EH&S needs are met for the employees of the plant
  • Experience with finding solutions and assist in being a sustainable facility
  • Proven ability to train, guide and mentor others with less experience
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint)
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for environmental initiatives and community
