Description

Provides repairs, scheduled maintenance, and calibration on diagnostic imaging equipment and ancillary equipment used within the imaging environment. Services imaging equipment in assigned geography which may include but not limited to the following modalities: CR, Portables, C-Arms, conventional X-Ray, R&F, tomography, mammography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, Cath labs, nuclear medicine or linear accelerators. Provides a high level of technical support and training to clinical departments in areas of expertise.

May be expected to be present during the clinical use of equipment in area of expertise and assume responsibility for equipment operation.

In addition, incumbent will be expected to work closely with clinical departments to assist in development of processes or procedures relative to clinical use of technologies in area of expertise.

This position is expected to have the ability to multitask several projects.

  • Regularly engages key caregivers (rounding, escalation, etc.) and provides representation for IS/Clinical Engineering to the caregiver.

  • Takes accountability for customer satisfaction.
  • Defines solution options and recommendations.
  • May attend daily huddles as the CTS representative, speaking to issues and commitments, then documents and escalates appropriately.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree Biomedical Equipment Technology or
  • Electronics Technology, Military or Technical Training
  • Upon request: Driving may be necessary as part of this role. Caregivers are required to comply with all state laws and requirements for driving. Caregivers will be expected to provide proof of driver license and auto insurance upon request. See policy for additional information.
  • Must be able to travel efficiently to all Providence sites within scope of assignment.
  • Must be able to participate in rotating on-call scheduled

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years' Experience repairing / maintaining imaging modalities.

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Biomed Documentation

  • Proactively identifies device end of life / support conditions and recommends improvements including SBAR documentation if applicable.
  • Performs all required steps to complete ARC events (Recall activities)
  • Identify and produce required Safety Reports
  • Utilizes documentation to identify reliability and financial trends on repairs.
  • Mentors others in the development of effective documentation.
  • Develops documentation standards across CTS teams at the enterprise level.

Regulatory Requirements

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of department policies, procedures and standards.
  • Demonstrates considerable knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and articulates where AEM’s might be used in place of OEM’s as recommendations to leadership.
  • Mentors others in the regulatory requirements.
  • Recommends & drafts updates to Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMPs) that describes current actions to regulatory requirements.

Clinical Engagement

  • Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with staff, management, physicians, visitors.
  • Builds relationships through rounding with staff and management.
  • Interprets how changes will impact imaging devices / systems and articulates that change to the impacted caregivers.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of the business requirements of the clinical caregiver and mentors the team.
  • Acts as a resource on highly complex technical imaging issues.

Technology Foundation

  • Electronics Theory

◦ Demonstrates advanced knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment.

◦ Interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of imaging devices.

◦ Operates a wide variety of hand-tools, power tools, and specialized test equipment used in the repair, testing, and calibration of imaging devices.

◦ Mentors others on electronics theory.

◦ Teaches others on the importance of a safe environment and promotes safety in their environment.

  • Medical Imaging Devices

◦ Perform advanced repair, calibration, testing, and preventative maintenance on most imaging devices according to manufacturer's specifications.

◦ Demonstrates substantial knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology as applied to use of imaging equipment.

◦ Utilizes training in advanced modalities (e.g. CT, MRI, Nuc Med).

◦ Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the application, the repair of computers and servers, and imaging interfaces.

◦ Runs advanced diagnostic programs on imaging devices.

◦ Mentors others on imaging device support, repairs, and preventative maintenance.

◦ Maintains an adequate supply of specific and common spare parts to reduce equipment downtime. When appropriate, third party sources or OEM vendors will be used to gain cost savings.

◦ Acts as a resource on highly complex technical imaging issues.

◦ Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of ultrasound and X-Ray physics.

  • Operating Systems & Networks

◦ Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the application and repair of infrastructure supporting imaging equipment (e.g., computers, servers network equipment).

◦ Uses common networking tools (e.g., Wire Shark) for troubleshooting purposes.

◦ Reloads and patches operating systems.

◦ Runs advanced diagnostic programs (e.g., Trace Route, OS commands)

◦ Understands and assists in the configuration of DHCP operations. Identifies the need and acquires fixed addresses.

◦ Demonstrates a high-level knowledge of networking components and concepts with an ability to apply the knowledge to practical work efforts.

◦ Provides advanced troubleshooting of PACS, DICOM and Imaging Networks
