Job Summary:
Report to the Assistant Vice President for the Office of Sponsored Projects, this position will be responsible for administering pre-award grant activities and grant agreement processing, and manages the compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations, and sponsor and HPU policies. Primary responsibility is to prepare and communicate grant components for submission or renewal and serve as liaison with internal and external stakeholders and funding agencies. This involves providing analytical and budget development support in the proposal processing, grants/contract administration, reporting and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. This position will track funding solicitations and notify interested faculty and staff of opportunities. This position will also provide and coordinate training for faculty and staff on grant funding search, grant writing and grant budgeting. The incumbent supports and performs back up post-award and grants/contracts accounting functions as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field or an equivalent combination of experience in education and experience.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in research administration.
  • Experience with using personal computers and software such as Microsoft Office and other related software.
  • Proficiency on Microsoft Excel. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exposure to grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Experience in grant application and budget development.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and be able to work-to-deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment and independently

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in a university environment.

Other Qualifications:
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
  • Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, if necessary.
  • This position may be considered an essential position with report to work obligations depending on the type of emergency, campus closure, or evacuation.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
  • Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between to all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
  • This position may also require driving responsibility for an HPU vehicle. Due to driving responsibilities, you must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with HPU's Vehicle Driving policy.
  • Able to work all shifts and extended hours including weekends.
  • Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
1. Administering pre-award grant activities and grant agreement processing and management(80%)
  • Prepare and communicate grant components for submission or renewal and serve as liaison with internal and external stakeholders and funding agencies.
  • Providing analytical and budget development support in the proposal processing, grants/contract administration, reporting and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors.
  • Track funding solicitations and notify interested faculty and staff of opportunities.
  • Provide and coordinate training for faculty and staff on grant funding search, grant writing and grant budgeting.

2. Supports and performs back up post-award and grants/contracts accounting functions, if needed. (15%)
3. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
  • Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
  • Assists with seasonal peaks.
