Department Overview
Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
 The vision of Public Safety and Asset Integrity is to:

• Support the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the transmission and distribution pipeline systems through the proactive use of asset knowledge, threat identification and analytical tools to increase operational efficiency, improve system integrity and minimize safety risk to employees and the communities we operate in.
The Transmission Integrity Management Group is responsible for assessing the integrity of the gas transmission system, facilitating repairs when necessary, and developing and implementing strategic mitigation plans for all gas assets.

Position Summary
This Senior Gas Engineer position will work with the In-Line Inspection (ILI) engineering team to manage and implement the ILI Program for gas transmission pipelines system-wide. This position is located within the Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP), which is responsible for maintaining and operating 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipelines throughout northern and central California. Pipeline safety regulations mandate the company to assess all gas transmission pipelines located in High Consequence Areas. This position will focus on planning and facilitating successful completion of inspection runs, reviewing the ILI data, selecting locations to examine pipelines based upon ILI data, assisting with technically sound repair decisions, and developing mitigation items based upon ILI results.
This position will report to the Supervising Gas ILI Engineering and will be hybrid work designation. Currently the team is working from home 5 days per week. Meetings at PG&E’s San Ramon Bishop Ranch office are held approximately 1-2 times per month in addition to field visits. 

This position will require up to 30% travel.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $128,000.00
Bay Area Maximum: $218,000.00

Job Responsibilities
•Responsible for the design, planning, and execution of ILI runs 
•Post-ILI run, perform detailed evaluation of all ILI data provided by the vendor. Recommend locations to excavate for verification of ILI data quality and provide field support during this work, including mapping of corrosion, evaluation of repair methods, and performing remaining pipe strength calculations.
•Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards requiring integration of information from a variety of sources. Performs lead role in determining scope, schedule, budget and resources needed.
•Provides some coaching and oversight to lower level peers. Reviews ILI run plans of lower level peers to determine applicability, feasibility and if objectives of project will be obtained.
•May assist higher level peers on the most complex and innovative ILI projects.
•Expands knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline, developing breadth or further developing expertise and specialization on one area.
•Collaborates with peers to prepare documentation of ILI projects and ensure critical data is shared among other groups including: Risk Management, Corrosion Engineering, and Pipeline Engineering. Communicate results of ILI assessments to both internal and external stakeholders.
•Develops project protocols, models, technologies and analyzes data. 
•Continually identify ILI program process improvements for future projects. Perform analysis and provide support for ongoing enhancements to ILI technology.
•Identifies innovations and cost- reduction potential of new and existing technologies.
•Determines ILI vendor deliverable expectations and ensures project deliverables meet customer satisfaction objectives.

Qualifications
Minimum:
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., mechanical, civil, electrical engineering, etc.)
•Travel availability
•5 years engineering experience
Desired:
•Experience related to natural gas utilities, In-Line Inspection, Pipeline Design, and/or Integrity Management
•Knowledge of 49 CFR 192
•Knowledge of natural gas operations or gas system planning
•Professional Engineer (PE) license
•Understanding of Pipeline Hazardous Materials & Safety Administration (PHMSA) and California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) codes and regulations
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills
•Ability to balance a diverse portfolio of projects and tasks occurring simultaneously
•Ability to work well in a team environment, including both the office and field
