Job Description
What's the role?
We are seeking a Senior Program Manager, Financial Crime Operations to coordinate and lead change management initiatives for our marketplace Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions Operations Program, including the automated and human controls Etsy uses to detect and mitigate money laundering risk.
The Senior Program Manager, Financial Crime Operations possesses excellent project management skills, which will enable them to efficiently support changes to AML and sanctions operations. The role requires someone who will build structure in ambiguous spaces, work in a fast paced environment and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills to define solutions to new problem sets. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of balancing critical thinking with detailed execution to help define the tools, roadmaps, and processes to support Financial Crime compliance operations.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Seller Verification and Financial Crime Operations (SVFC)and the base salary range will be $122,000 - $158,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. What does the day-to-day look like?
  • Structure high-level and ambiguous problems, developing clear insights and translating them into project plans using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Drive Financial Crime Operations-related projects from development through execution in partnership with Legal, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and Analytics.
  • Highlight risks, recommendations and implications to SVFC Leadership on all projects by articulating choices and tradeoffs that must be made to support business objectives.
  • Develop comprehensive cases, strategic recommendations, and implementation plans and gain alignment across key partners.
  • Distill action items into work streams and milestones and coordinate across teams to create agendas and supporting documents which engage stakeholders and improve overall transformation outcomes.
  • Work directly with Legal and Compliance to review regulatory updates and evaluate appropriate control enhancements to mitigate associated risks.
  • Maintain oversight over Etsy's anti-money laundering and sanctions control framework, including both automated controls and manual processes driven by the AML and Sanctions Investigations Teams.
  • Develop and maintain sanctions and AML-related documentation and training resources for use by the Sanctions Investigations and AML Investigations teams, in collaboration with the AML Investigations Manager, Sanctions Investigations Manager, and Director of Financial Crime Operations and within the framework set out by the SVFC Enablement team.
  • Provide thought leadership on process improvements: build upon the existing product launch process to ensure it is scalable, find opportunities to ensure swift and accurate execution of project plans, and help the organization continue to refine roles and responsibilities within functions as we scale and grow.
  • Lead root cause analyses and remediations when issues arise.
  • Assume a leadership role in responding to inquiries regarding Etsy's AML and Sanctions Programs, including those from payment partners, regulators, and auditors.
  • Develop and regularly disseminate metrics on the performance of automated controls for reporting to leadership.
  • Help identify, source, implement tools to support the evolution of our Financial Crime control framework.

Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
  • 5-8 years of experience in a project or Program Manager role, ideally in a regulatory change and/or compliance operations capacity
  • Experience crafting, implementing, and operationalizing compliance programs
  • Success in growing operational efficiency and effectiveness through process improvements, technology deployment and other mechanisms
  • Strong comfort level with technology
  • Good judgment, analytical thinking skills, and the ability to operate expertly in ambiguous and unfamiliar situations
  • Thoughtful, collaborative leadership skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience handling sensitive topics with discretion and composure
  • Bilingual/multilingual (Spanish, Portuguese) is a plus
