Autonomous Medical Devices Incorporated (AMDI) is an early-stage, California company focused on developing and manufacturing Autolabs and their associated test discs for human clinical diagnostics. Each of AMDI’s Autolabs are small, portable point-of-care diagnostics devices using breakthrough microfluidics, hardware, and data/cloud connectivity to deliver secure lab quality results in <15 minutes. AMDI has built a world class, multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists, clinicians, and database experts and will launch its first Research Use Only (RUO) products in 2023 from its ISO 13485 certified 110,000 square foot facility in Santa Ana, CA.
Summary of Position
We are seeking an experienced Senior Facilities Engineer who will play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise related to mechanical. electrical, and HVAC systems used to support our growing R&D and Manufacturing facilities. This is an incredible opportunity for someone who is passionate about leading parties through system design, qualification, daily troubleshooting, and equipment performance optimizations of our facilities infrastructure. We are looking for candidates with a solid background in HVAC units, chillers, clean rooms, BMS/EMS system, and other plant utilities.
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Facility Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and overseeing the company’s grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure that a workspace is safe and functional. Duties include providing hands on maintenance of the building, facility equipment and to ensure smooth operation of the facility. Partners with the manufacturing team by providing support on facility needs related to the initial set up and continued expansion of manufacturing capacity including new equipment installation and related facility modifications.
Location: Only local candidates will be considered. Candidates must reside within 15 miles of our Santa Ana, CA facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the day-to-day operations of the facility operates effectively and smoothly.
- Manage inspections, complaints, requests, and new implementations.
- Performing routine, hands on maintenance on facilities as needed.
- Monitor and maintain building management systems and infrastructure
- Operate, inspect, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment commercial systems such as HVAC, lighting controls, air compressors, fume hoods, etc.
- Minimize down time through proactive performance testing and scheduled maintenance
- Being available and respond quickly to emergency building situations, especially after hours
- Inspect building HVAC and plumbing systems to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions
- Oversee all components of these systems, including drawings and schematics
- Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety
- Work cross functionally with lab operations, engineering, and scientific personnel to discuss plans, facilities modifications, and user needs
- Develop and maintain productive, working relationships with Internal Stakeholders, Suppliers and Contractors by communicating priorities and collaborating on solving problems.
- Make recommendations for Suppliers, manage to company standards and guidelines and discharge if not meeting service level agreement.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Manage 2 cleaning staff members
- Monitoring the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, parking lots and outdoor recreation spaces.
- Ensuring proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with Human Resources and security system vendors.
- Track, report on and make recommendations to reduce overall cost of facility related expenditures.
- Assist with other responsibilities and/or projects as the need arises.
Qualifications Required for Position
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineer, mechanical, or related
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant facilities management experience, preferably in an FDA Regulated Manufacturing Facility, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing/working on electrical and mechanical systems (3 Phase Electrical power, air conditioning, clean room infrastructure)
- Experience with electrical panels, circuit breakers, fuses, wiring.
- Proficiency with repair tools and techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak with all levels of employees, guests, suppliers and team members.
- Great time management, organization and prioritization abilities.
- Keen attention to detail and efficient problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and in occasion move and lift heavy equipment safely. Comfortable with standing or walking for long periods of time.
- The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator (written and verbal) and possess the ability to effectively work with a team to achieve success.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PP) and applicable mechanical systems software
- Ability to write reports and correspondence
- Develop and maintain project budgets and schedules.
- Coordinate and schedule project activities.
- Ability to read blueprints for mechanical and electrical designs
- Ability to read factory floor plan and coordinate work for a team (internal or external resources) based on a drawing
Work Environment
- Work On-site and will require some work to be done in a clean room environment that is humidity controlled with Clean Room gowning required. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn at some stations.
- Are often exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
- Are exposed to hazardous equipment on a weekly basis.
- Are sometimes exposed to contaminants.

- Able to work from heights (ladders, lifts, cat walks, roof edge)
