Job Description
Position Purpose
As a Senior Environmental Specialist, you will act as environmental task lead or act as a project manager in completion of environmental services including environmental field studies, environmental assessments, and/or permitting to acquire environmental clearance for large KLJ client projects. In this role you will be intimately involved and knowledgeable regarding clients, industries and completion of work deliverables.
Essential Functions
- Conducts and/or leads teams in completion of field surveys and environmental planning work while acting as a task lead or project manager for large multi- discipline projects
- Assists project managers or serves as project manager; developing project scopes and budgets and ensuring scoped tasks are conducted within designated constraints
- Responsible for contracts, scope of services, schedules and budgets and ensures project delivery meets both KLJ customer and financial commitments
- Provides technical assistance to the business development team on proposals, contracts and development of scopes of work, schedules and budgets for projects
- Facilitates meetings with stakeholders and customers and coordinate with federal, state and local agencies to ensure environmental compliance
- Apply experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), land use permitting, and section 404/401 permitting to support a variety of high-level analysis and evaluations related to environmental due diligence, environmental compliance, and resource permitting for clients, preferably in the infrastructure market
- Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations including Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act/wetland regulations, and/or other environmental policies.
- Ensures compliance with KLJ safety and quality standards
- Utilize effective written and oral communication
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates an understanding of environmental tasks involving a high level of complexity
- Instructs, trains and mentors project team members
- Manage multiple disciplined project teams
- Provide direction, review, and support to the group by leading projects; assuring proper practices and techniques
- Serves as a resource to department/company colleagues related to knowledge of customers, markets and workload.
- Confer with project team members and clients to lead, prepare, and participate in project proposals and interviews
- Assist with and coordinate client management activities
Qualifications
Education:
- A four-year degree in Environmental studies or closely related field is required
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
Preferences:
- Project management experience is required
- GIS training is highly desired
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 95% of the time spent in the office and 5% in the field.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
