Job description

The City of Redmond, Washington is seeking to fill multiple Senior Engineer/Capital Project Manager positions in the Public Works Department to serve as Project Managers responsible for the design and construction of a variety of municipal projects. We are looking for a range of knowledge and experience to address a variety of needs. In this position, you will be part of the team responsible for final design and construction of all city projects relating to streets, water, wastewater, storm drainage, parks, facilities, and other municipal capital needs.

This role as a Senior Engineer/Capital Project Manager provides the opportunity to use problem-solving skills on a variety of projects. Depending on level of skill and experience, the ideal candidates will have the opportunity to manage project teams consisting of consultants, contractors, and other City staff.

  • Prepare or review project plans and specifications, including drafting as needed; analyze project requirements, physical location, and other pertinent data.
  • Develop scope of work and requests for proposals (RFPs); select consultants; finalize contracts; review work product; monitor budget and schedules; provide technical assistance to contractors; manage project resources and approve final work product for a wide range of public works projects, including capital improvement projects.
  • Perform detailed and complex engineering studies, designs, and field inspections, developing conclusions and recommendations.
  • Oversee projects to develop regulations from project inception through internal review and council adoption.
  • Represent the City in communications with public agencies, private utility companies, contractors, developers, business owners and the general public.
  • Coordinate project activities with city employees, contractors, other cities, and districts.
  • Recommend or influence changes to policies and procedures to accomplish general goals.
  • Represent the City in negotiations with businesses, contractors, other local jurisdictions, and property owners and have the authority to commit City resources to achieve work objectives.
  • Participate as a professional expert in legal matters related to engineering projects.
  • Recognize project issues that could generate potential contractor claim disputes.
  • Coordinate, supervise and provide fiscal tracking, quality control and safety oversight, from bid award through project final acceptance.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Seven (7) years engineering experience which includes three years of project administration and management responsibilities.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certificates
  • Engineer-Senior requires a Professional Engineer's License.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards.
ENGINEER:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Four (4) years engineering experience.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A Master's may substitute for two (2) years of experience and Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering Certification Preferred
Licenses and Certificates
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards.
ASSOCIATE ENGINEER:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification preferred.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certificates
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards.
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification within 6 months of employment.
