About the team:

Our Payroll product is at the center of our portfolio. It enables our customers to pay their employees correctly and on time in many countries around the world. As we continue to accrue customers rapidly and build engaging experiences, we continue to lean into an API-first strategy to power cross suite experiences both internally and externally. In this role you will help to realize these strategies to meet our demands of growth, scale, and effective delivery by crafting domain APIs.


Senior Software Test Engineers work with dedicated product teams to ensure that our products deliver against our customers’ unmet needs. They function as ambassadors of quality within the team and lead by example in instilling a testing mindset to improve overall quality and team velocity. They are responsible for ensuring our software functions the way it is intended by creating automated testing plans and strategy, creating/coaching software engineers/Associate Software Test Engineers/Software Test Engineers to create various forms of automated testing, execute tests and solve complex issues. They work with software engineers to improve overall software quality and to identify opportunities for improvement.


Engineering is the function that applies principles and techniques of engineering, mathematics, and computer/data science to the design, development, and testing of applications. The Product & Technology engineering family consists of software development, testing, database, devops, virtualization & network.

What you will do:

  • Understand customer needs and business goals.
  • Often acts as the test lead for features or epics.
  • Be adept at creating, executing, and supervising highly complex test plans for large-scale development projects.
  • Analyze Major Incidents (MINs) and regression bugs to identify and implement preventative measures.
  • Design cleanly coded, comprehensive test automation framework for their team or product area.
  • Consider future testing needs when designing test automation.
  • Work with developers to create test harnesses that will enable test automation for hard-to-test features.
  • Understand and consider technical dependencies, reflecting QA best practices and industry standards when creating test strategies.
  • Provide feedback via decision-making frameworks for proposed changes from across the organization.
  • Work within the scope of a team and participates in cross-team testing collaboration.
  • Work with Product Analysts to create thorough testing plans and strategy for automated testing.
  • Utilize, extend and create new automated testing frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities for test architecture and implementation that can be reused by multiple teams.
  • When needed, perform exploratory testing on the product to understand its testing challenges.
  • Create and mentor/coach software engineers/ASTEs/STEs to create various forms of automated testing (of high complexity) and help team identify and use appropriate methods of testing.
  • Understand how to use security testing tools to find gaps in security coverage.
  • Solve complex testing issues.
  • Monitor state of quality, raising awareness and resolution of gaps in quality
  • Drive the team and organization toward implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline, where needed. Identify and implement improvements for existing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines.
  • Regularly contribute to and at times present at CoPs, and contribute to Paved Roads when appropriate.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, 4+ years' experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building automated testing frameworks from scratch.
  • Demonstrated experience working with an object oriented language (preferably C#).
  • Demonstrated experience working with client-side web technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).
  • Demonstrated experience testing APIs and deep understanding of API best practices.
  • Experience writing SQL queries including joins.
  • Experience testing consumer facing web applications.
  • Deep knowledge of Software Testing techniques and best practices in an agile environment.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery integrations or tooling.
  • Must be adaptable to change and have a willingness to learn.
  • Must have a strong sense of curiosity.
  • Must commit to their role and take responsibility for their tasks.
  • Must be able to work effectively in an agile and team environment.
  • Must be effective and creative in problem solving.
