Job Summary:
The incumbent supports the development of Electromechanical Control Systems using quantitative methods to solve problems for internal and external Caterpillar customers through integrating mechanical and electronic components and systems through control algorithm implementation and optimization using data from sensors, on-board models, and product analytics. To direct and participate in the concept and design of complex engineering product or process projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.

Job Summary:
The incumbent supports the development of Electromechanical Control Systems using quantitative methods to solve problems for internal and external Caterpillar customers through integrating mechanical and electronic components and systems through control algorithm implementation and optimization using data from sensors, on-board models, and product analytics. To direct and participate in the concept and design of complex engineering product or process projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.
What you will do (includes but not limited to):
- Interface with team members to develop standard documentation.
- Lead project teams to execute the controls hardware and / or software scope.
- Develop control specification (control narratives) documentation based on User Requirements
- Perform initial feasibility studies for proposed projects, resulting in a feasibility-level cost estimate and supporting documentation for the project.
- Mark-up Process and Instrumentation Diagrams for instrumentation and controls related changes and review drawings.
- Design low-voltage (up to 480V) electrical controls drawings, panel drawings, loop sheets, I/O drawings, and network drawings
- Develop programs for Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and/or oversee the program development done by others.
- Human-Machine Interface (HMI) development and SCADA configuration
- Historian configuration
- Develop testing plans for DCS and PLC programs to effectively test all aspects of a new program or program changes.
- Simulate the DCS/PLC program and test the system using the testing plan.
- Oversee electrical controls construction at the client's site and verify that the system is being installed as designed - provide technical support to the construction effort of panels and controls installations.
- Perform I/O checkout on the installed control system and document the checkout results.
- Provide post-commissioning support to the client's operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel.
What you must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, or industrial preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of controls systems experience
- At least 1 year of experience working with PLC's (Siemens or Allen Bradley preferred)
