What You'll Do:

As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer at Traeger, you will be responsible for leading electrical engineering activities for our internal sustaining engineering team. In this role, you will work on field issues, product optimizations, cost improvements, and drive root cause / corrective action activities. You will work on issues that require a deep understanding of both software and hardware. In addition, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining existing 3rd party partners and their projects. This role requires a high level of organization, creativity, attention to detail, and engineering knowledge. You will be involved in collaborative activities as well as communicating project progress and information with the wider team.

How You Will Help Us Win:

  • Design, develop, manage, and maintain embedded firmware solutions.
  • Troubleshoot returned hardware and circuit card assemblies.
  • Work directly with customer service to root cause issues and provide customer solutions.
  • Execute tasks in a timely manner in order to meet business objectives.
  • Review and organize field returns.
  • Create and manage engineering documentation that meets industry standards.
  • Create JIRA tickets and properly maintain them throughout Sprints.
  • Participate in cost reduction activities.
  • Analyze field data.
  • Create and implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
  • Perform cost savings analyses.
  • Participate in the Sprint planning process.
  • Deploy Over-the-air (OTA) updates.
  • Follow all Electrical Engineering processes.
  • Use industry best practices for firmware development and source control.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on existing and future products.
  • Communicate project / task status to stakeholders and upper management.
  • Work well with all stakeholders and understand the needs of the whole product team.
  • Aid team with identifying process gaps and work together on making process improvements.
  • Own your work and the results.
  • Able to travel internationally.
  • Interface with teams and contract manufacturers in Asia.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Disciplined and experienced with data driven problem solving.
  • Experience using the Eight Disciplines Problem Solving Process / 8D.
  • Solid programming experience in C, additional programming languages (Python and Lua) a plus
  • Experience using JIRA for work assignments.
  • Experience using Git with BitBucket, Gitlab or similar for firmware revision control.
  • Strong understanding of micro-controllers and micro-controller architecture.
  • Have advanced skill set in embedded system design with RTOS system (FreeRTOS a plus), and bare metal.
  • Experience with IoT products and working knowledge of IoT architecture, consumer products a plus.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communications protocols.
  • Experience with electronics design using multiple microcontroller platforms, knowledge of Espressif products a plus.
  • Experience in component selection that will meet performance requirements, availability, and cost targets.
  • Experience with and interfacing to various peripheral devices and sensors.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting electrical schematics.
  • EMI/EMC compliance and troubleshooting experience a plus.
  • Experience with hardware bring-up and bench level debugging.
  • Must know how to use an oscilloscope and other test lab equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and process data to reach and communicate data-based recommendations.
  • Experience with product development using a stage-gate process.
  • PC literate in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Interaction with overseas resources, ability to travel overseas a must.
  • Strong knowledge of PC based data acquisition.
  • Initiative and a wide degree of creativity is required.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to work with teams cross functionally.
  • Must have proven experience developing and designing products.
  • Ability to effectively create and communicate ideas.
  • Demonstrable interest and skill in the field of product design.
  • Design for manufacturing experience a plus.
