Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics is a rapidly expanding initiative with the objective of revolutionizing the retail landscape through robotics. Our development and implementation of the cutting-edge Alphabot® technology are currently underway, with deployment in stores across North America.
As a Compliance Electrical Engineer at Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics, you will join the Electrical Engineering bot team, to design, manufacture, test, certify and deploy all electrical systems within the Alphabot.
The Electrical Engineering team is responsible for the full lifecycle design of all electrical systems in the bot from concept to full production and obsolescence.
This role should have a strong understanding of the regulatory compliance schemes and the process required to specify, test, qualify, document and maintain certifications related to Product Safety, Machine Safety (ideally w/ experience in mobile robots), Functional Safety, EMC, and wireless compliance for domestic and international markets.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON:- Determine the applicable regulations, standards, and safety requirements for the mobile platform and other static components of the micro fulfillment Alphabot system. Ensure that all Alert products are safe and compliant.
- Educate product team on regulatory requirements for new and existing products to help guide compliant design development.
- Manage and establish contracts and communication with third party regulatory Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs). Responsible for regulatory filings and keeping records and other documentation required by regulatory bodies.
- Work with 3rd party NRTL labs to test and validate products and support testing from a hardware and software perspective.
- Participate in certification of Alert's products, working with the Compliance, Engineering, and Operations teams as well as other organizations across Alert.
- Work with Alert suppliers to communicate regulatory requirements and verify compliance of 3rd party products.
- Create procedures and guidelines to ensure that governmental and industry regulations are met both domestically and globally.
- Participate in the reviews of the electrical and mechanical designs to verify the required standards are met. Keep engineering departments up-to-date on new or revised regulations that may be relevant to product specifications.
- Conducting tests and studies to achieve product compliance.
- Producing reports on compliance testing, developments, and processes.
- Instituting best-practice procedures for compliance and risk mitigation. Developing strategies and implementation plans for compliance-related matters.
- Explaining and defining compliance protocols and measures to stakeholders and relevant authorities.
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of working experience with Machine Safety and Functional Safety
- Experience in risk management and performing risk assessments.
- Knowledge of Standards, Regulations, and EU directives related to product safety, machinery safety and functional safety, e.g. NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, UL 1740, ISO 12100, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, and ISO 26262 as well as standards development (e.g. ISO, IEC, RIA, ANSI, UL, etc.).
- Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.
- Working experience with contract manufacturer and NRTL factory inspections
- Experience with engineering change control processes
- Working knowledge of EMC regulations pertaining to FCC, Industry Canada, EN 61000-6-x, etc.
- Experience documenting product requirements extracted from industry Safety, EMC and Wireless standards.
- Working knowledge with Safety, EMC and Wireless certification programs by means of identifying equipment needs, documentation needs, staging and support of equipment to be tested, debug capabilities, etc.
