The American Association for Justice (AAJ®) is seeking a Senior Director of Meetings and Sales for its Meetings and Conventions department. The Senior Director of Meeting and Sales serves as a part of the Senior team and is responsible for the development and execution of all AAJ events and the growth and oversight of sponsorships, exhibitor/vendor relationships, and advertising sales. The Senior Director of Meeting and Sales manages and oversees the operations of two departments: Meetings & Conventions and Business Development.
AAJ works to preserve the constitutional right to trial by jury and to make sure people have a fair chance to seek justice when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others—even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.
Job duties include the following (this is not an inclusive list of all duties):
Events:
Responsible for developing conceptual designs for events, inclusive of layout, format, storyboarding, proposed targeted audience.
Responsible for developing budget for proposed events to ensure financial feasibility.
Negotiate and procure hotel, service partners, sponsors, talent, and vendor agreements related to events.
Collaborate with Marketing in the development and implementation of marketing plan for events and Sales.
Sales
Manage overall sales relating to existing and potential exhibitors to meet sales revenue targets with the goal of exceeding sales revenue targets.
Oversee strategic selling to prospects about the benefits of sponsoring or exhibiting at events.
Develop new sponsors and secure new commitments utilizing new strategies that align with programming and revenue goals.
General/Management
In conjunction with the Senior Management team, strengthen engagement with current members and expand outreach to prospective members.
Work with Senior Management team on long-term strategic planning and new initiatives.
Actively manage direct reports by establishing strong and productive relationships including regular communication, timely performance feedback, and offering training and development opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible professional experience in meeting planning and exposition management at the national level. CMP required. CAE preferred.
Minimum of ten years of business development and Sales experience, with strong record of increasing revenue streams and providing valuable benefit to members and to vendors/sponsors/partners.
Minimum of ten years’ demonstrated experience in managing, coaching and mentoring employees; proven ability to effectively lead and motivate staff.
Prior experience working in a membership association and/or non-profit organization; prior experience working in a legal association is preferred.
Experience in managing and executing production of membership experiences (membership luncheons, Town Halls, leadership retreats, etc.)
Must have a proven track record of positively impacting brands through event creation projects, while having a passion for content, and driving revenue while building audience.
Experience with strategic planning, work plan development, oversight of processes, systems, and measurement of results.
Exceptional verbal/written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact at all levels, tactfully influence decisions, and encourage ideas/feedback from a diverse range of sources.
Strong acumen in analyzing data to spot trends, measure effectiveness, and keep a pulse on changes in member attitudes, preferences, and engagement levels.
Prior experience in financial management, including budget planning and managing a budget.
Travel to two conventions, site visits, and other meetings as deemed necessary (approximately 30%.)
