Job description

Responsible for supporting Business and Corporate Services functions with IS/IT solutions and capabilities that support Nordson strategic and operational goals and objectives. Build and maintaining strong business relationships through trust, effective communication, and IS/IT delivery. This position will develop a continuous improvement process to address Business process and operational excellence opportunities.

This position may also advise the CIO to mature IS/IT capabilities and services including but not limited to building and maintaining frameworks for Strategic Business Planning, IS/IT Planning, Operational Excellence, Organizational Change Management, IS/IT Employee Engagement, and Talent Management.

Organizational responsibilities will include introducing, managing, and maturing the following global resource groups:

  • Project Management Office [PMO]
  • Business Analyst Office [BAO]
  • Merger & Acquisitions Team [MAT]
  • Business Management Office [BMO]

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Business Relationships

  • Establish strong relationships with Corporate Service Functions’ Leadership.
  • Create regular Program / Project Reporting to ensure Business Leaders are involved and connected to ongoing progress.
  • Establish a seat at the table with Business Leaders.
  • Be the focal point to address Business Leaders’ comments, concerns, and questions.

Planning and Execution (Strategic and Operational)

  • Establish 3-year strategies and annual business plans to effectively deliver to Nordson’s strategic priorities.
  • Implement Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to manage commitments, successes, and obstacles to provide transparency on all areas of IS/IT delivery.
  • Develop and maintain a Program/Project Intake Process to address annual and on-going business needs.
  • Create department business plans, individual employee goals and service level agreements as necessary with robust metrics to ensure continual improvement targets are achieved.
  • Establish a continuous performance efforts, monitoring, and reporting systems. Closely monitor operational success measures, producing timely and accurate reports to track progress in delivering to strategies and plans.
  • Implement an RCA (Root Cause Analysis) mindset and methodology to drive continual improvement efforts for the Corporate Services Functions and the Corporate Services IT Organization.
  • Regularly report the status of performance improvement efforts and impacts.
  • Design, develop and monitor a balanced scorecard and Organization Maturity Model process and reporting. Ensure adherence to reporting quality and timelines.
  • Direct PMO, BAO, MAT and BMO - with responsibility for delivering operational excellence for all IS/IT Functions.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement a Value Stream Mapping capability within Nordson IS/IT Organization.
  • Partnering with division leaders and internal IS/IT leaders to identify potential process and system improvement areas documenting current As-Is flows and determine future To-Be flows that can improve overall organizational and system performance.

Frameworks

  • Establish a Strategic Planning Framework to capture the Business Functions strategies and objectives that can be used to develop the IS/IT response.
  • Develop and implement a Quarterly Business Plan Framework and process that will drive quarterly planning and execution. Build a Quarterly Business Review (QBR) process that ensures all stakeholders are aligned on the status, successes, and obstacles.
  • Rollout an RCA (Root Cause Analysis) Framework , process, and mindset to continually address improvement areas and to determine root causes of issues to eliminate future issues.

IS/IT Services Portfolio & Project Management Office

  • Maintain the Corporate Services Portfolio and Reporting.
  • Ensure all Program/Project Managers are aligned on project execution methodologies and reporting requirements.

Technology Enablement

  • Manage through IS/IT Leaders within the technology organization all technology aspects from day-to-day operations to issue & resolution management processes to maintain agreed upon services levels.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology trends and applications that support the Corporate Services Functions operations. Communicate with the Business Partners what the trends are and how the organizations may leverage new advancements in technological capabilities.

Talent Management

  • Build and effective and motivated IT team.
  • Create an environment where the IT team thrives providing understanding of the IT and Business strategies and where they fit into the Big Picture (their line-of-sight). Provide opportunities to grow and timely feedback on performance with the eye to increase individual and team performance.
  • Implement a semi-annual and annual Talent Management Process to discuss individuals and growth opportunities within the IS/IT Team.

Quarterly Business Review Reporting

  • Manage metrics reporting pertaining to business drivers, labor drivers, service levels and risk indicators. Communicate to various stakeholders on a monthly/quarterly basis with recommendations for improvements.
  • Continually investigate ways to simplify and automate scorecard metrics capture and reporting.
  • Coordinate, manage and facilitate Corporate Services Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with Division Leaders, Segment/Corporate Business Partners and IS/IT Leaders.

Financial Management

  • Implement an effective financial management and communication model to support visibility of costs and benefits of Programs, Projects, and IT Organization processes.
  • Create and manage the IS/IT Budget.

Vendor Management

  • Conduct periodic vendor management reviews as needed to ensure satisfaction.
  • Manage Vendor Relationship and performance to ensure value is being delivered.
  • Manage internal organizational resources to ensure all service capabilities are executed to meet service level agreements.
  • Manage external resources as needed to ensure services rendered meet or exceed the organization’s needs.

IT Leadership Team Member

  • Participate as an active team member of the overall IS/IT organization leadership team.
  • Provide insights, ideas, and collaboration to enhance a connected IT Organization.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, or similar discipline. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in IS/IT management.
  • Proven track record of effectively leading and managing employees, managing performance, setting goals for team/individuals and provide mentoring.
  • Project management experience, including leading, delivering and implementation projects for new solutions in complex environments with many involved parties (technical disciplines, IT, software vendors, outsourcing partners etc.)
  • A natural ability to engage and communicate with customers to understand their needs and unique challenges

  • Organizational skills and works effectively with a vast array of information and to cope with rapidly changing information, able to manage multiple tasks as well as multiple customers, ability to work independently and be highly organized.
  • Tolerance for Ambiguity with Sound judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, tenacity, and the flexibility to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, relationship skills to be able to interact at all levels.
  • Strong Financial acumen and fluency
  • Understand customer/organizational business functions and requirements, expertly evaluate existing, new, and emerging technology and/or applications, which may provide solutions for the requirements and to provide expert leadership and assist in implementing the solution to the customer’s satisfaction. The candidate must understand the interrelationships of all functional and technical areas.
  • Combination of high level of IS/technical and business/functional knowledge.
  • Manage teams of both technical and business/functional background.
  • Turn insights into compelling narratives and executive presentations using dashboards and visualization.
  • Support business ideation and requirements discovery activities including conducting demos, scoping assessments, build recommendations, rapid prototypes, discuss sourcing options and deliver projects.
  • Manage all aspects of projects including business needs, technical implementation, schedule, scope, stakeholder management and communication.
  • Strong communication, presentation, project management and time management skills

Base Salary Range for this position is: $213,000 - $267,000
, and bonus target is 20%; shift premium may be available depending on shift associated with the specific job opportunity. Benefits including Medical, Rx, Vision, Dental, and Health Savings Account (HSA), Retirement and Security benefits including 401k and Life Insurance. During the first year of employment, employees may accrue up to 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO), equivalent to 120 hours. Employees receive 13 paid holidays. In addition to Paid Time Off and paid Holidays, each employee receives 16 hours paid time each calendar year to perform volunteer services for Nordson-sponsored events. The base salary pay range for this job level is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, business considerations, and local market conditions, as well as candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, and skills.
