Mitsubishi Power America, Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is looking for a Senior Director, Hydrogen Projects Summary
Mitsubishi Power is a major original equipment manufacturer and comprehensive solutions provider for the energy industry. This role will report directly to the SVP, Head of Hydrogen Infrastructure and be a member of the Hydrogen Infrastructure leadership team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Scoping
- Provide leadership and support for project development, including proposals, and working with the business development team.
- Manage a project team for preparation of feasibility and pre-FEED studies. Coordinating with design team to ensure that all aspects of the project are completed on time and within budget.
- Develop schedule and budget for the projects based on offtake needs.
- Monitoring progress of the project and study execution, identifying problems, and assisting the team in delivering an optimized solution that meets the offtaker's needs and objectives.
- Develops, plans, coordinates, and manages projects across multiple locations and different global time zones.
- Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
Project Execution
- Managing large, complex turnkey jobs or multiple projects from development to FID and through the entire construction process until COD.
- Supervising and directing the project team during planning, estimating, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and turnover of assigned projects.
- Ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the project and upon project completion.
- Maintain risk registers and matrices to ensure project risks are being adequately monitored and mitigated throughout construction.
Commercial Strategy Support
- Support commercial bidding activities by utilizing commercial and technical know-how, including pricing and terms strategy support, project schedule and execution layout, and voice of customer inclusion in all bidding strategies.
- Support customer negotiations for contractual terms and agreements.
- Review and understand commercial matters, contracts, technical documents, and details.
- Support growth of relationships with strategic partners, constructors, and engineering firms.
- Provide H2I leadership with key short-term and long-term strategic considerations around hydrogen equipment, construction contracting strategies and partners, M&A considerations, and supplier-negotiated partnerships for optimized sourcing.
- Prepare and present technical papers at industry conferences and meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Microsoft Project or similar software proficiency.
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills (i.e. vlookup, index/match, pivot tables, filters, templates.)
- Ability and interest to travel up to 30% of time to visit customer offices, including international travel.
Knowledge, Skills, & Education

- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field from college or university and at least ten years related experience and/or training.
- Commercial Experience: Commercial experience is essential, through previous Sales, Commercial Operations, Application Engineering, or similar roles.
- Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills critical in order to effectively influence coworkers and drive tasks and projects to completion including agenda setting, action item management, risk management, project scoping, and project scheduling.
- Highly competitive, self-starter that can work both individually and in a group setting.
- Ability to effectively network and build beneficial relationships with customers and peers.
- Aptitude for understanding commercial terms and conditions and supporting negotiations.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Proficient in basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiency in Excel and experience with cost modeling a must (life cycle cost models, discounted cash flow models, etc.). Strong PowerPoint and presentation skills preferred.
