POSITION SUMMARY:

Mitsubishi Electric US seeks a Senior Director, Government Relations & Public Policy to develop and implement Public Policy strategies across corporate divisions and business groups in the U.S. and Japan.

The Senior Director will communicate and advise executive leadership in the U.S. and Japan on a broad range of policy initiatives that affect company interests. This position will represent company before policymakers, industry associations, allied groups, and other constituencies.

Successful candidate will communicate effectively across company lines in U.S. and Japan to build awareness of key issues and develop executive participation in policy and industry engagements.

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as primary contact with Congress, Executive agencies, trade and industry associations, non-government organizations, think tanks, other Washington organizations.
  • Effectively builds, maintains, and expands relationships with U.S. policymakers and other key constituencies.
  • Positions Mitsubishi Electric as brand and thought leader to U.S. policymakers and other groups on matters where company has expertise to inform sound Public Policy.
  • Actively monitors U.S. government proposals to seek opportunities for company to engage and advance corporate objectives. Is well-aware of potential policy and industry threats to company interests and develops proactive plans to manage these risks.
  • Regularly communicates key and relevant government and political developments to executive leadership in clear and easily understood manner.
  • Coordinates and writes company comments, white papers, fact sheets or other advocacy communications on policy matters that directly affect corporate interests and incorporates staff insight into final product.
  • Provides practical and strategic advice to company executives on Public Policy matters.
  • Successfully integrates senior executive leadership into Public Policy efforts.
  • Works across company lines to develop responses to crisis communication events and mitigate risks.
  • Manages engagements with consultants and lobbyists.
  • Collaborates with other corporate functions such as strategic planning, communications, legal, and business development to achieve shared goals.
  • Serves as officer of company’s Washington, DC-based philanthropic organization (Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation) and works to achieve mission of assisting young people with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years federal government experience preferred
  • Direct experience working with corporation, industry association, consulting, or advocacy organization.
  • Experience with energy, IRA/IIJA implementation, , ,international trade, and geopolitical issues.
  • Strategic thinker, consensus builder, and strong business acumen.
  • Ability to proactively initiate projects while building consensus across company to achieve buy-in.
  • Clear, concise, and persuasive written and oral communicator with ability to effectively convey complex issues inside multinational corporation and diverse audiences.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $156,000 and $214,500/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including commissions based on achieving individual performance and/or sales metrics, incentive compensation and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
