The Senior Director, Corporate Strategy, Market Intelligence is a mission-critical role responsible for delivering support to the Walmart CEO as well as the company's Segment and Functional Leaders on global market performance, competitor analysis, and other strategic initiatives. This individual and their team will shape the strategic agenda, support development of business and financial plans, and develop and execute a comprehensive strategy that aligns with business and functional strategies across functions and business segments deemed critical to the success of Walmart long-term business objectives. Additionally, this team will provide consulting and program management for specific strategic and change initiatives across the business.
The team manages intake of new opportunities and drives build/buy/partner assessments for enterprise-wide initiatives in partnership with Segment, Function and Global Tech teams; and drives the overall strategic planning process and related Board of Directors reporting.
Strategic Planning & Reporting:
  • Supports overall strategic planning and reporting cadence including Board of Director and Strategic Planning & Finance Committee agendas and content development.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to set objectives; manage objective setting analysis, template development, and strategies valuation; support prioritization of strategic initiatives in current and new markets; recommend revisions to strategies.
  • Supports strategic development for Executive Committee, inclusive of offsites, workshops, etc.
  • Unifies segment specific strategies into a cohesive story articulating the long-term vision and direction of Walmart; influences long range planning and driving decision making for critical investment choices

Monitoring and Analyzing Competitors Dynamics :
  • Drives work to create scalable, actionable approaches to Market Intelligence, leveraging internal and external data sets to create new models for assigned segments with in-depth analysis of market size, growth, and share performance at the country, region, and product levels of competitors. Works across the Enterprise to do this.
  • Applies deep knowledge of Market Intelligence as a key thought leader on marketplace and competitor dynamics.
  • Oversees the analytical understanding of competitor behavior and business to identify opportunities for Walmart and risk mitigation opportunities in the competitive landscape.
  • Sets the short- and long-term strategic directions of market and competitor insights practices for Walmart.
  • Demonstrates awareness of emerging artificial intelligence and data science trends and their potential impacts on Walmart.

Competitor Benchmarking, Positioning & Investment Strategies:
  • Collaborates with leaders across analytic domains to research and develop competitive intelligence, technology trends, financial positioning, and market opportunities of global and domestic competitors. Benchmarks and measures performance at the company and product levels.
  • Develops specific scenarios based on insights and assesses Walmart's strategies against probable outcomes through research and intelligence.
  • Supports scenario planning to pressure-test Walmart's strategies against market and competitive actions, and to anticipate market trends, maximize opportunities against competitors, minimize threats, and drive winning strategies and tactics more effectively.
  • Oversees internal and external teams (for example, vendors) in the collection and interpretation of primary and secondary market and competitor information, formulating key trends and developing strategic recommendations for leadership on competitor brand building activities and market dynamics.

Network Building and Information Sharing with Internal Stakeholders:
  • Builds information-sharing networks and leverages primary research capabilities to gain insights from key partners. Understands and communicate trends, external factors, and market developments that could drive business with diverse groups and parties across Walmart.

Talent Development & Acquisition
  • Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business intelligence, strategy, data science, finance, or related area and 7 years' experience in strategic finance, competitive intelligence, consulting, market research, data analytics, or related area in a high-growth technology sector. OR 9 years' experience in strategic finance, corporate finance, competitive intelligence, consulting, market research, data analytics, or related field in a high growth technology sector.
  • MBA highly preferred
  • 4+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams
  • 4+ years of experience of strategic long term forecasting and reporting
  • 4+ years of experience analyzing data and interpreting results
  • Experience working in a large, complex, matrixed organization
  • Experience in Supply Chain, Retail, Merchandising Planning and / or Finance
  • Experience working in Fortune 100 finance
  • Strong organizational skills including prioritizing, scheduling, time management, and meeting deadlines
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Detail and results-oriented with sense of urgency
  • Comfort with ambiguity
