Overview:
This individual will lead the Corporate (Parent and related matters) Accounting and Consolidation functions for the Company. This role is responsible for the preparation of financial information in accordance with US GAAP and the maintenance of strong internal controls, as well as providing consolidated information for use in both internal and external financial reporting. The individual in this role will coordinate with accounting teams globally and serve as a key advisor to Senior Management and the other areas of the Controllership, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, and business finance functions, as well as other business areas as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the Consolidation function, including:
- Management of the monthly, quarterly and annual global consolidated close process, including setting the close calendar, monitoring status, and coordinating with global accounting teams to address and resolve matters impacting the close
- Preparing and providing monthly, quarterly and annual financial information to senior Finance management, and supporting FP&A with preparation of other monthly management reporting
- Providing timely, accurate financial information to the SEC Reporting and Investor Relations functions for quarterly earnings releases
- Coordinating with the Financial Systems function as it relates to maintenance and updates of the Hyperion Financial Management consolidation system
- Oversight of the Corporate/Parent accounting function, including:
- Accounting for capital structure – debt, equity, and associated financing/re-financing transactions
- Leading stock-based compensation Accounting and reporting
- Partnering with Treasury in support of covenant compliance calculations
- Partnering with Technical Accounting to determine and document the Company’s accounting for significant transactions with formal position papers, as well as development or modification of policies as needed
- Ensure that appropriate internal controls are established and consistently executed in line with Corporate standards, including SOX
- Lead the coordination of internal and external audit support in areas of responsibility
- Other responsibilities as necessary/assigned, including:
- Partner with Technical Accounting in the assessment of, and manage the implementation of, new accounting standards.
- Partner across the Controllership organization on the development, maintenance or updating of operational accounting policies.
- Assist in developing responses to SEC Comment Letters
- Review and provide input to SEC filings
- Identify opportunities to drive operational excellence process improvement in accounting, monthly close, and reporting processes
Key Relationships:
- Direct report to the Controller and Chief Accounting Officer
- Other Controllership functions, including Financial Systems, Pharmaceutical Accounting, Technical Accounting, and SEC Reporting
- Corporate Finance leadership, including Tax, Treasury, FP&A and Investor Relations
- Regional and Country-level finance leaders
- Business Unit leadership
- Internal and External Audit
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA and/or Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including experience analyzing complex transactions and circumstances
- Process-oriented, with a continuous improvement mindset
- Proven cross-functional collaborator, with a focus on solutioning challenges encountered
- Strong leadership skills, and proven ability to motivate teams toward shared goals with a track record for developing talent
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate direction, drive results, and convey complex information in easily understood formats
- Sound project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-national environment
- Experience with Hyperion Consolidation and Planning systems, as well as SAP (S4/Hana) preferred
- Fluent communication in English is essential
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, including experience in or leading a Consolidations function
- Big 4 public accounting firm and/or large multinational public company experience preferred
- Experience in the Pharmaceutical and/or Life Sciences Industries a plus
