DSDH DSSPE – Real World and Multi-Omics Data Engineering, Solutions and Pipelines
Johnson & Johnson - Janssen Pharmaceuticals is recruiting for a Senior Data Scientist / Senior Engineer to join the R&D Data Science, Solutions, Privacy and Ethics (DSSP) department. In this role, you will report to a Principal Scientist overseeing a portfolio that includes work across both Real World Data (RWD) and Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS).

Key responsibilities:
In this role you will:
- Partner with J&J Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) and J&J Information Technology (IT) to identify business needs / gaps / projects requirements in the data science space.
- Participate in technical design discussions, contributing with insights and ideas, helping to translate needs into solution specifications .
- Explore and analyze different data (discovery, development—small/large molecules—clinical supply chain, preclinical, and safety) from different systems and infrastructures / architectures, aiming to discover solutions that push the discovery-focused data science forward.
- Development of data pipelines / extract, translate and load (ETL’s), enabling data-driven solutions and secondary use.
- Troubleshoot and facilitate the resolution of issues with existing platforms and pipelines and taking proactive actions to avoid issues from reoccurring in collaboration with J&J Technology, DPDS and external collaborators.
- Analyze processes and document requirements .
- Gather requirements and translate them into specifications .
- Apply procedures and processes effectively in compliance with J&J standards,
Qualifications
- Master and/or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry or Bioinformatics
- 3+ yrs of related experience in Biotech / Pharma R&D experience
- Experience with SQL, R, Python, and/or other programming languages
- Ability to engage in cross-functional collaborations
- Ability to translate discussions into actionable requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify, design and implement processes
- Knowledge of data engineering approaches
- Capable of focusing and prioritizing tasks across multiple stakeholder groups
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills – English
- Quick learner, motivated self-starter, and team player
Preferred
- Comfortable learning new technologies
- Knowledge of Research processes, drug discovery and/or drug development processes
- Experience working within Amazon Web Services ( AWS )
- Familiarity with Natural Language Processing ( NLP ) techniques, Large Language Model ( LLM ) applications, and generative AI technologies
- Strong tracking, coordination, and planning skills
Expected Annual Salary: $104k - $166k
