Charlie Health has set out on a mission to reimagine how high acuity care is delivered to young people and families in crisis. Our initial offering is a virtual intensive outpatient program, which places peers with similar mental health experiences and goals into customized virtual groups. Our team of masters-level clinicians lead groups multiple times per week to deliver a higher level of care.

About the Role
As the first Senior Data Scientist at Charlie Health, you'll help shape our data-driven future. You'll leverage your expertise in machine learning and statistical analysis to build and deploy impactful models that optimize our programs and patient experiences. You'll leverage your skills and expertise to address problems ranging from predicting a client's likelihood of successful completion of Charlie Health's program, recommending personalized therapist matches to fit a client's needs and preferences, or predicting and preventing appointment no-shows. Your work will directly impact the lives of teens and young adults seeking mental health support with Charlie Health.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy high-quality, impactful machine learning models with rapid time to value
- Design, validate, and implement predictive models for tasks like session attendance likelihood, discharge readiness, and readmission risk
- Optimize complex processes through model-driven insights (e.g., therapist assignment, group session matching)
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and care strategy teams to translate data into actionable solutions
- Act as the product owner for data science initiatives, proactively identifying opportunities and building out a roadmap
- Monitor model performance, evaluate results, and iterate to continuously improve model effectiveness
- Mentor and educate other team members, fostering a collaborative data science culture
Requirements
- 3-5+ years experience in a data science role at a fast-growing organization
- Experience building data science models from scratch and collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to translate models into productized solutions that drive quantifiable business value
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field required
- Proven track record in developing and launching successful ML based business solutions
- Solid understanding of statistical methods and principles
- Proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to bridge the gap between technical and business needs
- Stakeholder management skills to effectively identify, calculate, and communicate the value of data science initiatives
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and a passion for making a positive impact
- Please note that this position is located in New York, NY and is expected to adhere to a 4-day in-office hybrid work schedule. Candidates must be located within 75 minutes' commuting distance of the NYC office. #LI-Hybrid

Additional Information
The expected pay for this role will be between $148,500 and $228,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, pay will be determined on an individualized basis and will be impacted by location and years of experience. Further, pay is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Charlie Health-sponsored benefits.
