Senior CustomerInsights and Behavioral Science Researcher
Location: Boulder, Colorado Preferred (Remote - Home Office with Monthly Local Travel)

To support the growth of the Customer Insights Team, we are seeking a Senior CustomerInsights and Behavioral Science Researcher for our Utility Programs and Services (UPS) division. The qualified applicant will conduct qualitative and quantitative research and manage research projects, in collaboration with, the larger Customer Insights and Behavioral Science team at ICF. Research findings will be used to inform and enhance the work done by ICF program implementation and marketing teams, subcontractors, and partners and to provide solutions for our utility clients. In this position, you will be responsible for developing new insights about utility customers by exploring their perceptions, attitudes, knowledge and behaviors through the application of a range of social science and marketing research methods, including (but not limited to) online surveys, focus groups, in depth interviews, triads, customer journey mapping, A/B and usability testing, user testing, market research, literature reviews, and workshops.
In this role, you will work collaboratively with a team of researchers, subject matter experts, program implementers, data analysts and others to design, implement, analyze, and report on a broad range of customer research topics using best-in-class research practices. As a member of the Customer Insights Team, you will frequently collaborate remotely with colleagues from other ICF teams, including IT, data analytics, marketing, and program implementation to ensure all aspects of the customer research effort are fully aligned with the goals, strategies and protocols of our utility clients and are delivered on time and on budget.

What you will be doing:
  • Developing online surveys and providing methodological guidance in support of quantitative research activities including sample design, survey instrument development, and survey programming, while identifying improvements to survey processes and QC/QA procedures
  • Conducting qualitative customer research including online and in-person focus groups, in-depth interviews, triads, A/B and usability testing, user testing, and customer journey mapping involving moderator/ interview guide and sample design, and research plan development
  • Applying rigorous methods in the assessment of the qualitative and quantitative research output, identifying key themes, trends, and relationships, and describing the importance or value of those findings in solving program challenges
  • Using advanced data visualization skills and experience in creating infographics, customer journey maps, and other creative materials and power point presentations
  • Developing research quality assurance protocols and ensuring high quality research data, reports, and presentations
  • Applying strong writing and communication skills including the ability to write concise and impactful reports, emails, blogs, and research papers
  • Managing one or more customer research projects, including the management of project timelines, budgets, team communications, and client presentations
  • Contributing to the development of proposal content including budgets, timelines, and staff resources
  • Collaborating with the Director of Customer Insights and other ICF staff to ensure customer research is achieving goals on schedule and within budget and that work products are of the highest quality
  • Identifying and coordinating with outside subcontractors, vendors, and internal collaborators
  • Contributing to, and leading, the development of Customer Insights Lunch-n-Learns (internal) and client-facing webinars to promote and share Customer Insights work
  • Must be available for monthly local travel and occasional client site travel.

What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):
  • Masters Degree in (sociology, psychology, or behavioral economics or related field) and
  • 2+ years of experience developing designing and conducting successful qualitative and quantitative research projects, such as Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification (EM&V) or similar applicable experience
    OR
  • Bachelor's degree, in (sociology, psychology, behavioral economics or related field) and
  • 4+ years of experience developing designing and conducting successful qualitative and quantitative research projects, such as Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification (EM&V) or similar applicable experience
    AND
  • 2+ years of applied experience in project management, including coordinating teams and tasks, tracking completion of activities, managing schedules, monitoring project budget, and ensuring the quality of work products.

What we would like you to have:
  • Prior work experience in the utility or consulting industries with in-depth knowledge of energy efficiency, clean energy, and/or demand response programs
  • Proficiency in survey research software (Qualtrics, QuestionPro, etc.) and data analysis software (SPSS, R, etc.)
  • Advanced skills in the following areas: organization, creative problem solving, financial and time management, data analysis, stakeholder collaboration, written and verbal communications
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Viso, and Excel)

  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making and research reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to be flexible and multi-task, balancing both short-term quick turnround research requests while maintaining long-term and ongoing support for our clients.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Strong team player with the ability to take initiative and work well independently and remotely; ability to travel, if required.
  • Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:
$87,607.00 - $148,932.00
