This Counsel or Senior Counsel position supports Chevron’s Americas Fuels & Lubricants business. The position is based in either San Ramon, California or Houston, Texas and reports to the Managing Counsel, Americas Fuels & Lubricants.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Providing commercial, transactional, and regulatory legal support on issues relating to Chevron’s fuels and lubricants business in the Americas.
- Acting as an advisor to or member of commercial teams advising on a broad range of legal issues; drafting and negotiating supply and other commercial agreements; managing legal and commercial risks; ensuring Chevron's interests are protected and advanced while providing client teams with ongoing counsel on legal issues, contract terms, corporate policies, and claims.
- Working closely with Chevron's subject matter experts in tax, HR, finance, intellectual property, compliance, environmental, insurance and project management to integrate commercial agreements within a comprehensive risk management structure.
- Interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations; developing legal strategies and providing advice on the relative legal risks with such strategies.
- Communicating clearly, simply, and directly. Providing timely and fit-for-purpose training, reports to business clients and law management.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in a U.S. state or the District of Columbia.
- 7+ years of sophisticated transactional legal experience.
- High attention to detail. Excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
- Adept commercial and creative thinker with experience collaborating with business clients, other in-house counsel, outside counsel and support staff in a faced-paced team environment.
- Excellent relationship-building skills. Strong negotiation skills. High ethical standards.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Downstream oil and gas industry experience.
- Experience with the Petroleum Marketing Practices Act (PMPA).
- Experience with fuel sales or lubricant sales or base oil sales.
- Experience supporting a product sales team, including experience drafting and negotiating product sales agreements.
- Experience supporting a business leadership team.

- The anticipated salary range for this position is $153,500 – $237,900 . The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
