Reporting to the Controller, this role involves collaborating with Finance and Operations teams to facilitate the development of precise cost standards and provide in-depth cost analysis. It requires strong organizational and analytical skills to offer insights Cost of Goods Sold, identifying challenges and working with the team to find solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of accurate bill of materials and the entire production process.
- Ensure the accurate allocation of expenses to COGS accounts on the Profit and Loss statement.
- Take the lead in monthly Inventory valuation, including reconciliations and analysis of reserves.
- Optimize inventory procedures and maintain consistent reporting.
- Analyze cost absorption and conduct monthly variance analysis.
- Manage and reconcile inter-company inventory transactions.
- Compile month-end reports related to costing, standard COGS, and operational activities.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls concerning cost accounting and inventory
- Lead analysis of excess & obsolete inventory and determine appropriate inventory reserves.
- Collaborate with the purchasing team to ensure accurate material costs and provide monthly analytics on material spending.
- Lead the annual development and rollout of standard costs.
- Partner with plant personnel to investigate standard margin variances and manufacturing variances each month.
- Collaborate with the Logistics Team and IT to comprehend current reporting metrics, create enhanced reports, and fully grasp inventory transactions as they relate to the general ledger.
- Work with external auditors during audits to ensure the provision of all requested information related to the costing process.
- Assist in the preparation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including inventory flux analysis, days of supply, and inventory turns.
- Prepare and maintain standard adjusting journal entries with supporting documentation related to operational cost accounting and monthly inventory reconciliation.
- Continuously seek process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Support Accounting, Finance, and Operations with ad-hoc requests and analytical projects as required.
Experience, Skills & Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Cost Accounting.
- Strong background in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in managing and analyzing extensive data sets.
- Excellent Excel skills are a plus.
- Experience in a multi-unit operating environment is desirable.
- Profound understanding of costing methods.
- Approximately 25% domestic travel may be required.
