Job description

Position Purpose: This role will be responsible for performing accounting functions, including the preparation and review of monthly financial statements in addition to reporting for all corporate entities. The senior accountant will ensure that accounting records and transactions are prepared and maintained both accurately and completely. In addition, this role will be responsible for supporting the management and operation of the company's corporate functions through the delivery of reliable accounting practices and informative operational and financial reporting services.

Essential Functions: The following list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented or modified, as necessary.

  • Perform full-cycle accounting transactions through the general ledger system.
  • Prepare monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Review and prepare monthly workpapers and financial statements for all corporate entities using accrual basis accounting.
  • Aid in the monthly preparation of the executive reporting package.
  • Prepare various management reports, lender reporting, and departmental reporting, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all final work product.
  • Conduct financial analysis while identifying potential process development needs and opportunities to gain efficiencies.
  • Assist with interim and year-end audit preparation.
  • Review and approve invoices; create invoice allocations.
  • Prepare funding packages (A/P, Payroll, utilities bill payment service, etc.).
  • Prepare weekly cash forecast schedule for management and executive team.
  • Prepare and maintain management fee workpapers, process the management fee cash collections, and properly record all activity in the general ledger system.
  • Prepare wires and ACH transfers for various cash transactions.
  • Calculate monthly sales and use tax.
  • Assist in the preparation of corporate budgets and re-forecasts.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Must demonstrate strong proficiency for discretion with personal and confidential information while ensuring appropriate safeguards over sensitive information are maintained.

Qualifications & Requirements: The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with 3-5 years of accounting experience, public or private, is required. Exposure to real estate or multi-site accounting is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of full-cycle accounting transactions, and their effects on the general ledger and financial statements.
  • Advanced competency with variety of software including Microsoft Excel and Office 365. Experience with MRI and Yardi is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and reliability of work product when working with large volumes of data or transactions.
  • Ability to solve routine problems independently, in addition to working collaboratively with coworkers and maintain a cooperative, productive atmosphere.
  • Ability to demonstrate thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure the highest quality standards for accuracy, completeness, aesthetic design, and adaptability in function.
  • Ability to interpret responsibilities and possess initiative and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of internal and external individuals.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
