Job Details

The Senior Copywriter develops compelling creative concepts and high quality verbal content, within brand and on strategy in alignment to portfolio / business function supported. Creative support may include direct mail and email direct-to-consumer marketing, TD Banks web site, as well as off-site advertising and display tactics or retail merchandising, local and experiential activations, collateral and other print-focused marketing materials. Works in collaboration with the Head Copywriter, Brand Voice Lead, Digital & Retail Channel Strategists and designers who create the visual portion of concepts, the Senior Copywriter develops verbal concepts in response to a creative brief, addressing specific challenges and marketing objectives defined by the brief.
  • Executes the copywriting of Direct-to-Consumer, Digital Marketing or Print and Merchandising assets as prescribed by creative/marketing briefs under the direction of the Head Copywriter, Brand Voice Lead, Creative Director, Account team, Digital & Retail Channel Strategists, and clients
  • Provides copy for both small-and large-scale projects, from creative conception to completion
  • Brainstorms and strategizes with others within the In-house agency to develop creative direction with a focus on the messaging and tone
  • Develops unique solutions, new principles and concepts, utilizing data and research from internal / external resources and extensive knowledge of company and industry products, services and marketing strategies
  • Adheres to consistent use of language and strategies across portfolio / business function supported and demonstrates advanced copywriting expertise across a variety of marketing executions including but not limited to advertising, direct mail, marketing collateral, online communication etc.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the brand voice and style, and ensures they are applied appropriately and thoroughly across all executions
  • Works with internal teams and clients in development and approval of strategic creative briefs
  • Maintains a thorough and current awareness of the competitive landscape as it pertains to communications and all media touchpoints
  • For on-site page content, participates in cross-department workflow to partner with Digital Channels’ project managers and designers, providing copy deck needed for development and approving content in staging before final publishing release
  • Participates in an agile workflow to produce impact-focused, iterative results that are continuously improved through performance analysis and consumer feedback
  • Exhibits exceptional writing skills and proven success with writing for impact in DTC, Digital or Print and Retail communications, with an understanding of the psychology and strategy that drives response
  • Ensures adherence to compliance and regulatory guidelines. In addition, keeping informed of the business challenges and competitor strategies is critical for success

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in English, journalism, communications or related field
  • 5+ years of professional level writing experience required
  • External or in-house agency experience required
  • Portfolio required with examples of successful direct-to-consumer, digital, print or retail advertising work
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and solve user experience and business problems
  • Strong creative thinker with the ability to apply conceptual strategy
  • Demonstrates proficient expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency with AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style
  • Understands writing applications in traditional and emerging channels with considerable knowledge of how to write for impact in Digital Marketing tactics
  • Maintains a consistent voice and audience focus in writing
  • Is able to boil down verbose content to the essence of the main message in a concise, effective manner
  • Exhibits consistent quality control in work
  • Exhibits an understanding of specific channels or vertical markets as required by job function
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt style of copy to various audiences, purposes, or media
  • Exhibits competency presenting creative work
  • Experience working within legal and compliance parameters
