Job description

Senior Consulting Engagement Managers have responsibility for Cultivate’s most complex Consulting Engagements. They take ownership over a specific set of these Engagements, ensuring every detail is considered, clients are managed, and work is delivered.

The expectations for Senior Consulting Engagement Managers at Cultivate:

1. Creating Great Engagements

  • Participate in business development conversations with qualified leads, leading the discovery portion of the meeting probing for more details to scope out a potential engagement
  • Lead great client intake with detailed notes about the client’s needs and desires, as well as their success measures
  • Manage the process of strategic sense making to deeply process the client’s needs and desires, and turn that into a point of view of how Cultivate can address their needs and desires
  • Structuring thinking so that it’s clear to all stakeholders and storylining deliverables that are easy to follow and understand
  • Craft creative, clear, specific proposals that share how Cultivate can address their needs over the course of an engagement, with clear deliverables and proposed high-level timelines in a way that aligns with our values of Human Centered, Design Forward and Action Oriented
  • Refine proposals with client input to help lead these prospective engagements across the finish line to becoming active engagements
  • Nurture past engagements and generate referrals

2. Relationship Management

  • Build great client relationships by ensuring they feel heard and work to build a personal relationship with them that fosters a deep empathy for their goals
  • Go the extra mile to build great relationships with clients, setting up 1:1’s as needed to check in, ensure clients are heard, and listening for feedback to ensure their satisfaction
  • Keep antennas up to find opportunities to expand our work, continue our work, and grow our relationships with the client

3. Project Management: Active Engagement Set Up

  • Author clear, specific briefs and SOWs that outline detailed deliverables, timing, and a roadmap for the project. Engage internal stakeholders in the process to ensure timely input and alignment.
  • Build out the project roadmap in Asana with clear deliverables and interim deliverables working backwards from the expectations outlined in the SOW, and engage key team members to ensure that they are clear on their project roles and responsibilities.
  • In collaboration with Design & Delivery, ensure the project is staffed correctly with design and execution resources who can deliver on the work outlined in the SOW
  • Once an engagement is closed, ensure procurement process is initiated with the client as soon as possible; oversee internal operations as process is executed
  • Lead an engaging project kickoff process that ensures all stakeholders (internal and external) are clear and excited about the work to be done and their roles and responsibilities

4. Project Management: Ongoing

  • Maintain an always up-to-date project management tracker in Asana that allows for any team member at any time to gain a quick understanding of the project status
  • Maintain an always up-to-date repository in Sharepoint with project files and assets that are easy to find, navigate to, and collaborate with
  • Maintain an always up-to-date Slack thread where all internal communication happens about the project, ensuring it’s easy for team members to get up to speed and chime in where needed
  • Facilitate internal project team meetings at a cadence that is appropriate for the project to ensure the team can successfully deliver on the client work
  • Manage internal creative resources to execute on project tasks
  • If needs change as the project unfolds, facilitate ongoing conversations with project team and stakeholders to reset expectations and ensure continued alignment on roles and responsibilities
  • Manage internal stakeholders so that they can provide meaningful and timely input when needed
  • Ensure all aspects of Cultivate’s Client Engagement Ways of Working are followed and deliver on all responsibilities outlined in the RACI model

5. Project Management: Client Management and Communications

  • Lead all client communications so that we’re always proactive and never have to be reactive to clients asking questions like, “where is this?” or “what is the next step on this?”
  • Calendar all client meetings immediately upon the decision of timing for the meetings, always having deep empathy for client needs and including necessary agendas and pre-reads
  • Facilitate client meetings, ensuring they are efficiently and effectively run, seeking clarity and driving specificity by ensuring next steps are clear with clear owners and clear dates
  • Send pre-read materials a minimum of 24 hours in advance of a meeting with clear guidance about what they should review and what to expect
  • Send clear, summarized notes a maximum of 24 hours after a meeting with clearly defined next steps based on commitments made in the meeting
  • Create and track necessary status report information for projects, in some cases this includes tracking towards specific milestones, in some cases this includes tracking towards specific budget, and sending those status reports at the agreed upon intervals.
  • Listen on behalf of the client and advocate for the client needs to our internal design and execution team to ensure we’re delivering for their needs
  • Take detailed notes in all meetings, ensuring we have clearly captured things clients have said and don’t need to follow-up and ask them to repeat themselves
  • Review work before it goes to the client to ensure quality, looking out for how the client will read and respond to deliverables to get ahead of any challenges
  • Deliver client communications during business hours, with a strong preference for important communications to be happening on Monday - Thursday so important communications aren’t buried on a Friday
  • Lead creation of client communications deliverables, for example: additional project overview/explanation decks for stakeholders, dashboards that show engagement progress/status, overview materials, client recap emails and notes, project summaries, survey administration emails and summaries, participant emails

6. Project Management: Engagement Closeout

  • Lead project close out activities such as capturing and delivering feedback, delivering a final report out package of deliverables to the client, and making any changes to our internal processes
  • Generating referrals from existing clients

Qualifications

  • Past Management Consulting / Learning & Development Consulting experience in a consulting firm.
  • Large company insight, knowing how large companies (over 5K employees) operate, and what it takes to deliver successful work in partnership with and for clients from large companies
  • Background in and knowledge of the fields of corporate talent development and Learning & Development
