Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant - Geotechnical Engineer in our geotechnical and mining engineering practices in the Ventura, California office. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects involving dam engineering, tailings and mining infrastructures, brownfields redevelopment, and other geotechnical design and construction works. Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Managing projects successfully to achieve goals for technical excellence, budget control, schedule compliance, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Oversee civil and/or Geotechnical Engineering analyses;
  • Oversee subsurface site characterization;
  • Directing and overseeing dam safety reviews and assessments.
  • Designing, managing, and performing geotechnical, geoenvironmental, civil, mining, and/or geological engineering field investigations including drilling, instrumentation, and construction quality assurance;
  • Working with numerical modeling software programs for stability, seepage and settlement/deformation analysis;
  • Providing subject matter expert services for PFMA, SQRA and QRA workshops.
  • Providing expert services for Independent Technical Review Boards (ITRB).
  • Preparing and coordinating the integration of design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, construction cost estimates, reports, and permit applications;
  • Reviewing and managing written document production;
  • Staff management and mentoring; and
  • Business development in the mining sector; including supporting/leading/bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a related engineering field. (required) 
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E, P.Eng.). (required)

  • At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of directly relevant experience in a consulting and/or owner environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) 
  • Demonstrated business development and project management experience. (required)
  • Hands-on experience of tailings management and facilities design and operation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in design, safety review and risk assessments for water and tailing dams.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards and guidelines related to dams and tailing facilities including CDA, and GISTM.
  • Knowledge of relevant Geotechnical Engineering software (e.g., slope stability). (preferred) 
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in construction of water and tailings dams.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) 
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Site visits and overnight/overseas travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required) 

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $133,820/year / Maximum Salary: $237,175/year (Ventura)
