DEPARTMENT: Claims
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Senior Claims Manager will optimize AmericanAg™ claims operations by handling reinsurance claims through completion and provide customer service by being a main contact for reinsurance claim expertise and advice. As a trusted consultant to internal and external clients, the Senior Claims Manager will leverage their extensive claims and/or reinsurance knowledge to influence and direct complex claims involving exposures such as extra contractual obligations, excess policy limits, pollution, bad faith, workers' compensation, and occurrence catastrophe.
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Claims
LOCATION: Schaumburg, Illinois (Hybrid)
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct claim operations to maximize cooperation, service, and financial equity between AmericanAg™ and its reinsurance clients in the handling of claims
- Maintain working knowledge of reinsurance programs provided by AmericanAg™ and efficiently handle claims against those programs to ensure customers receive the full benefit by:
- Recognizing exposures and ensuring reserving is adequate and timely
- Issuing responsible and timely disbursement of funds
- Settling claims within settlement authority up to $1,000,000
- Consulting with and requesting approval of appropriate superiors on disbursements in excess of assigned authority
- Reporting necessary information to outside reinsurers
- Providing other operational departments with needed claim information
- Travel and provide education, claim review, evaluations, consultation, and/or assistance to each assigned customer
- Provide instructions and assistance to customers in applying their reinsurance program and reinsurance claims procedures
- Provide subject matter expertise to internal and external clients through education, direction, and management of complex claims
- Present comfortably, appropriately, and positively with senior managers and executives
- Speak, participate in, or facilitate seminars and committees involving customers and the insurance industry to foster mutual education
- Perform other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS: This position works closely with almost all internal departments at AmericanAg™, and externally with Farm Bureau® clients, reinsurance intermediaries, reinsurers, and other business partners.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
- CPCU designation or enrolled in courses to complete CPCU
- ARe designation or enrolled in ARe courses – required to complete ARe
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ten years of claims handling experience or equivalent
- Proven knowledge of claim procedures, policies, terminology, etc., including coverage analysis background, knowledge of claims practices and insurance law
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage data effectively through technology
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously and meet established deadlines
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
- Five years of reinsurance claims handling experience
- Experience working with claims involving extra contractual obligations, excess policy limits, bad faith, pollution, workers' compensation, occurrence catastrophe
- Expertise in reinsurance programs and structures
- Five years claims operations supervision
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to work in our Schaumburg, Illinois, headquarters at least three days each week and as needed. Travel for this position will be around 25-30%.
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $165,000 - $190,000 annually. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual productivity bonus.
