About the Role

The Book Designer will work closely with the CEO and other creative team members to develop and execute on world-class design concepts for various book projects and marketing assets.
This includes print and digital titles, both original and “refreshed”, from start to finish.
The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp on literary design, branding, the publishing industry, illustration and typography.

Responsibilities include:

• Delivering professional cover concepts and polished final covers that are visually compelling and of world-class quality
• Design and manage all stages of book packaging (jackets, covers, interiors), from early concept to final bound book
• Following book interior templates to typeset manuscripts and prepare electronic files for pre-press
• Creating design assets for digital marketing and branding promotions surrounding book campaigns

This position is an integral part of a small and committed team. A “whatever it takes” mentality combined with a “no task is too big or too small” attitude is required to succeed in this role. The position consists of a 5-day in-office schedule, Monday-Friday, requiring remote availability as needed for tight deadlines outside of normal business hours.

Qualifications:

• Coachability and commitment to best practices, taking direction and continuous learning
• Organizational capacity to manage multiple (and often competing) deadlines
• Technical expertise with Macintosh, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, as well as past experience or knowledge of print production process
• Understanding of how their composition work impacts downstream processes, including eBook production and future print editions
• Ability to interpret and adhere to CEO’s creative long-term vision, re-directing the creative process where necessary
• Resourceful and imaginative with a passion for artistic storytelling
• Sense of humor, flexibility and outstanding work-ethic
• A strong, focused sense of creative aesthetic taste and exceptional use of typography and color theory (demonstrated in portfolio)
• Adaptable, self-motivated, and diligent in your attention to detail

Compensation Package: Salary $50,000 to $70,000 + Full Health Care Benefits + 3% Simple IRA
