We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our IT Development team to help us enhance our applications supporting the Merchant Solutions division. This role is based in Jacksonville, FL and offers a hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate will be a fast learner and enjoy working independently or within a team. You must also be confident in all aspects of software delivery on large and small projects including build/test automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Implementation
- Develop efficient, scalable, and maintainable Java applications
- Implement best practices for code quality, performance, and security
- Maintain and refactor existing codebase as needed
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability
- Code Quality and Reviews
- Actively participate in code reviews, maintaining high code quality and enforcing coding standards
- Provide constructive feedback to other engineers to improve the overall team's work
- Mentoring and Coaching
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, fostering their professional growth
- Collaboration Across Teams
- Effectively collaborates with product managers, project managers, designers, and other teams to ensure alignment and on time delivery
- Continuous Learning
- Continuously works on improving business domain expertise and product knowledge.
- Staying updated with the latest advancements in software engineering, emerging technologies, and industry trends
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent
- Relevant software development experience of 5+ years in software development using Java
- Excellent understanding of OOP concepts, design patterns, clean code practices, data structures and algorithms
- Strong analytical skills to identify and address performance bottlenecks, scalability, and security issues
- Experience with relational databases and NoSQL databases
- Experience with cloud platforms and microservices architecture
- Experience with SDLC processes and Agile practices
- Ability to create clear and concise technical documentation
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
- Experience in mentoring other engineers
- A passion for self-development
