- Maintains a fleet of Nation-owned vehicles including cars, trucks, light and heavy-duty trucks ensuring that vehicles are safe, reliable and operating efficiently.
- Inspects vehicles thoroughly and repairs or replaces broken or worn components.
- Diagnoses and repairs heating and air, electrical and engine cooling systems.
- Performs tune-ups.
- Inspects and replaces wear items as necessary.
- Maintains repair and service records and recommends vehicles for preventative maintenance.
- Maintains the work area in a safe and clean condition.
- Perform courtesy vehicle inspections.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma
- Must have working knowledge in brakes, steering and suspension, tires, engine diagnostics, alignments, engine and transmission repairs.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Compensated Skill Sets:
- ASE Certifications
- NY State Inspectors License
- Participated in Tech School (BOCES)
- Automotive or Trade School Degrees
Position Physical Requirements:
- This position requires heavy physical work - exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
- Must have visual acuity for the purpose of operating equipment and motor vehicles.
- This position requires the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping and feeling.
- Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold; subject to noise and hazards such as proximity to mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current and exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, gases, poor ventilation and oils.
- Repetitive motion of the hands, wrists and fingers for the frequent use of various tools/equipment.
