This role will be responsible for accounting, billing, financial analysis and reporting for Duke Energy Carolinas electric transmission services (supporting the Joint Ownership & Transmission Accounting team).This position requires a blended knowledge of technical and functional financial reporting and analysis skills and will work closely with our transmission customers, Rates department and Wholesale Front Office. Key activities include compiling monthly customer bills, recording related journal entries and reconciling related general ledger accounts. This position will also interface directly with customers to review billing data and provide insight into billing calculations.
This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work independently and receive minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.
Responsibilities
Maintains detailed working knowledge of the Company's Open Access Transmission Tariff ("OATT") which describes billing attributes and rate designs.
Reviews monthly customer bills which are prepared using billing software. Billing activity includes interfaces with Corporate IT, meter data, energy system accounting (schedules/tags) and energy re-costing support functions. Maintains a working relationship with these key support teams.
Maintains a working relationship with third party customers to reconcile billing data throughout the month and answer customer inquiries.
Prepares annual FERC Form 1 transmission revenue report. (currently pages 328 - 330)
Prepares annual transmission formula rate true-up calculations and helps lead the annual OATT formula rate review process.
Helps coordinate the data request responses to the customers' related to annual OATT formula rate annual rate updates for DEC and DEP.
Acts as the subject matter expert ("SME") for billing system upgrades, database upgrades and other related IT applications.
Serve as backup for transmission billing in other jurisdictions, such as Duke Energy Progress and Duke Energy Florida.
Reviews other transmission revenue journal entries as part of month end close procedures.
Documents and maintains Sarbanes Oxley controls procedures.
Cross-trains others in transmission billing and administration.
Required/Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
Three (3) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
Desired Qualifications
CPA or working toward CPA
Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience
Experience in regulated utility accounting
Demonstrated analytical/problem solving skills and strong business acumen
Ability to understand business operations and apply business acumen to identify issues and propose innovative solutions
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build relationships at all levels within the organization
Highly motivated self-directed individual who can follow through and work with moderate direction or supervision
Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
