Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Financial accounting:
- Assists in the preparation for the annual audit and external financial reporting by working under the oversight of the Manager of Accounting & Finance. Prepares supporting workpapers for the audit.
- Ensures organizational compliance with GAAP, GASB, UFARS, and other federal and state regulations.
- Capitalizes assets and manages depreciation expense.
- Independently prepares journal entries as needed, including monthly and year-end accounting closing entries within the ERP system.
- Reviews account and organizational activity to determine proper accounting treatment (examples: prepaids, capital assets, deferred revenue, accruals, etc.) and maintains schedules as necessary.
- Prepares month end account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts. Investigates and corrects reconciling items as necessary.
- Creates and maintains ERP reports as requested by stakeholders.
2. Revenue recognition and project/cost accounting
- Reconciles deferred revenue and manages revenue recognition schedules.
- Prepares journal entries for revenue, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable related accounts.
- Prepares reports on project revenues, costs, and margins.
- Assists in the design and maintenance of a project/cost accounting system meeting the organization's requirements.
3. Provides assistance to the Manager of Accounting & Finance and/or CFO
- Maintains General Ledger activity which involves reconciling, adjusting, and posting information to the ledger on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis in compliance with GAAP.
- Works closely with Finance team members to resolve non-routine issues as they arise.
- Collaborates with team members in interpreting, implementing, and maintaining the organization's accounting and financial practices to ensure strong internal control and compliance with State & Federal regulations, etc.
4. Other duties and special projects as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Serve as a back-up to various Accounting Operations tasks and functions as needed.
- Serve as a back-up on the deposit process in the absence of the Principal Accountant.
- Assist in ERP system configuration and testing.
Additional Job Description:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, AND Three (3) years of accounting experience including:
- Demonstrated experience with financial reporting and general ledger structures.
- Demonstrated experience applying GAAP and GASB to accounting practices. OR
- An equivalent combination of related post-secondary and/or professional training/education and demonstrated accounting experience equal to seven (7) years.
- Proficient with computer accounting software, spreadsheets, databases, and related technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant
- 5 years of experience as a Senior Accountant
- Experience with public sector and/or government accounting

- Grade 10, $73,806.20 - $103,328.6 per fiscal year, commensurate with experience.
