SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - SEC REPORTING AND TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING
SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to contribute to the success of our growing organization by supporting the SEC reporting function and key financial operations for Ionis. This position requires effective interpersonal skills, strong detail-oriented and organizational skills, and the ability multi-task and be flexible to changing priorities. This position offers the opportunity to be in a "hands on" role within the accounting team and contribute by preparing monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, researching Technical Accounting guidance and supporting the SEC financial reporting process. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the ability to perform responsibilities within tight deadlines, and an excellent working knowledge of finance and accounting practices in a public corporate environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports quarterly and year-end financial Reporting and audit deliverables, including assisting with the preparation of Ionis' quarterly earnings release and 10-Q/K documents, related tie out procedures and XBRL review
  • Supports the financial statement close process, including the preparation of journal entries
  • Prepares complex account reconciliations including, but not limited to, Investments, Debt, and Equity
  • Calculates stock-based compensation expense using Equity Edge Online
  • Performs lease related accounting in accordance with ASC 842
  • Plays an integral role in ensuring that day-to-day controls for areas of responsibility are operating as designed and assists with overall Sarbanes-Oxley management
  • Stays current on Technical Accounting guidance, performs research and analysis on current, new or pending technical guidance as needed
  • Prepares Technical Accounting memos for specific transactions and/or adoption of new accounting guidance as needed
  • Assists with streamlining processes and procedures
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business
  • CPA or MBA required
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Public Company or Public Accounting Firm experience required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and ability to research accounting guidance
  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Office proficiency
  • Goal-oriented and self-motivated; ability to work efficiently and productively in a dynamic environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; willingness to accept responsibility for projects/processes
  • Comfortable in an interrogative environment; embraces collaboration and open debate to manage projects, solve problems and discuss challenging issues
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task are essential

Prior experience with the following software is a plus:
  • Broadridge Financial Disclosure Software (formerly Summit Financial/ EDGARfilings by Thomson Reuters)
  • BlackLine
  • Equity Edge Online
  • Clearwater
  • Experience with multiple ERPs preferred (such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, and/or Oracle)
