Scope of Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant is a new position that will have a broad range of responsibilities and hands-on involvement across all day-to-day accounting operations including month-end close, financial reporting, budget, audit, payroll, and tax filings. This position will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to develop standard operating procedures for the department and organization. The position requires a high attention to detail, the ability to work independently in a demanding environment and ability to work cross-functionally.
Essential Responsibilities
· Complete month-end close including preparation of bank reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, analysis, and reporting
· Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, accompanying schedules and department reports as needed
· Client contact and team lead for annual external audit
· Complete documentation, schedules, and other supporting information for external audit and tax returns
· Support annual budgeting process and prepare forecasts as needed
· Process bi-weekly payrolls, related filings, and state registrations
· Process employee expenses and maintain corporate credit card program
· Implementation of processes and systems to improve efficiency throughout the department
Requirements:Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required
· 8+ years accounting experience; minimum 5 years nonprofit accounting
· Payroll experience
· Supervisory experience a plus
· Government experience a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Advanced level skills in accounting and database software
· Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
· Ability to work collaboratively across department functions
· Excellent communication and leadership skills
· Initiative-taker, solution-oriented mindset
