SELF DEPOSIT STATION ATTENDANT

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision and direction of the Street Superintendent, this position is responsible for assisting and directing visitors to the self-Deposit Station in the proper use of the station and proper disposal of materials. The Self-Deposit Station Attendant performs work of varied difficulty associated with the collection and organization of refuse and recyclable materials. Hours are (generally) Tuesday and Friday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; generally 24 hours per week. During the period from December 1 through March 31 of each calendar year, hours will generally be Tuesday from 10:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides customer service and direction to visitors to the Self-Deposit Station.
  • Verifies resident status of self-Deposit Station users at entry gate.
  • Receives payment for Self-Deposit Station daily user fee and other disposal charges.
  • Assists residents with deposit of waste and materials for proper recycling and disposal at the Self-Deposit Station if available.
  • Opens and closes the self-Deposit Station as assigned.
  • Provides information and answers resident questions regarding proper recycling and disposal methods.
  • Documents and reports any illegal dumping to supervisor.
  • Assists in maintenance of the self-Deposit Station building and grounds as needed.
  • Assists in various tasks related to the operation of the self-Deposit Station as assigned.
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments and repairs to light equipment.
  • Performs general building maintenance and cleaning.
  • Prepares records related to tasks performed.
  • Reports issues or operational needs to management.
  • Maintains prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance.
  • All other related work as required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years recent general labor experience
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient operation and ability to operate conventional mechanical equipment typically used in a municipal public works department.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards and precautions necessary in the work place.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, city employees, elected officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to provide truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Lawn mower, common hand tools, equipment and machinery.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; climb, balance, bend, twist and reach; feel, see, hear, and talk; push, pull, grasp, carry, use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, controls, and machinery; reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Exposure to various shop gases and fumes; exposure to various shop acids and cleaners; exposure to load shop related noises. Must be able to withstand exposure to inclement weather and loud noises.

RESIDENCY:
The residency requirement for all non-emergency city employees shall be as permitted by Wis. Stat. Sec. 66.0502.
CLASSIFICATION:
This is a part time general employee position, governed by the General Employee rules and regulations.
