SECURITY & SAFETY MANAGER
SALARY RANGE $63,000 - $65,000
Position Overview
Reporting to the Head of Operations, continually maintain an environment that ensures the safety, security, and health of all visitors, employees, and assets of the McNay. The Security & Safety Manager position is a critical role that supports the mission and champions customer-friendly experiences while keeping the Museum’s staff, visitors, collections, and facilities safe and secure
Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and manage an effective strategy to assess and mitigate risk, maintain continuity of operations, and safeguard the facility and overall campus. Direct security personnel in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining all safety and security processes, practices, and policies to reduce risks, respond to incidents, and limit exposure and liability in all areas of financial, physical, and personal risk.
  • Recruit, interview, select, on-board, and train the security staff with assistance from the Security Supervisor and HR as appropriate.
  • Manages the Security team and a Security Supervisor, providing a safe and positive atmosphere of respect and mentoring while establishing clear expectations and guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Operations, plan and implement a comprehensive and on-going training program for all security and gallery services officers (as well as non-safety staff), including, but not limited to: threat identification, prevention of criminal and/or undesirable activity, report writing, patrolling, video surveillance, workplace safety, customer service, visitor interaction, conflict avoidance and resolution. Lead in the design, implementation and administration of the security department procedures manual, training manual, emergency evacuation procedures, critical response plan and museum- wide safety program, ensuring compliance with all federal and state mandated safety standards (OSHA).
  • Responsible for monitoring, inspection, testing and maintenance of all security and fire safety equipment, including alarms, fire suppression, and facility security systems. Manage all security and safety equipment contractors for maintenance, installations, or repairs. Negotiate best possible contracts for the maintenance of fire and security systems. Identify and assess deficiencies in the systems and recommend upgrades.
  • Maintain compliance of museum’s permits, licenses, and insurance and proactively schedules required system inspections, license renewals, program updates, systems tests and repairs.
  • Prepare and manage department’s budget including capital expenditure plans for equipment and improvements to the security infrastructure.
  • Report promptly all observed security, safety, fire, utility, and environmental hazards to the Head of Operations and/or other pertinent personnel, with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Assist curatorial staff and work with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) representatives as needed to successfully implement the Certified Cargo Screening Program and maintain the McNay’s status as a Certified Cargo Screening Facility.
  • Proactively organizes and prepares work schedules for employees to ensure the appropriate amounts of staff are available for each work shift and special events. This involves working closely with employees to plan and schedule their requests for time off, maintaining within part-time and full-time schedules, as well as proactively hiring through temporary staffing agencies when needed. This also involves filling in and working on any post assignment when needed or as directed by the Head of Operations.
  • Consult and collaborate with all Museum staff to define security needs for exhibitions, events, workshops, etc.
  • Act as liaison between local and federal law enforcement and other public safety officials and the Museum in collaboration with the Head of Operations.
  • Learn and understand the processes around Art security and maintenance to collaborate with Curatorial staff on best practices to ensure museum is at low risk for loss of assets.
  • Effectively manages competing priorities in a high-paced environment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirement
State Security Manager Certification current or obtainable. First Aid, CPR, AED Certification current or obtainable; “Trainer” level preferred. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance needs of access control, CCTV, fire suppression, alarm, and other safety/security systems. Elevated computer proficiency in MS Office. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain valid operator’s license, have proof of insurance, and have a good driving record. Must be physically fit to stand, bend, climb, walk, run and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Must be flexible as to work hours; evening and/or weekend hours are sometimes required.

Education & Experience:
BS Degree in police science/criminal justice preferred or equivalent degree in environmental, health & safety, public administration, or business management. 5 or more years in security experience at the management level or equivalent is desired.
