Job description

We are currently seeking a Security Representative, who will act as gatekeeper for staff and visitors entering back of house areas, and patrol all areas of Severance Music Center throughout the day and evening. The Security Representative opens and secures Severance Music Center doors by means of periodic rounds and monitoring the security camera system.
Position responsibilities include the following:
Security Desk Responsibilities
  • Fulfill all aspects of Musical Arts Association (MAA) customer service standards which include the ability to deliver excellent customer service that exceeds the customer’s expectations.
  • Greet and provide direction and assistance to patrons, visitors, vendors, delivery persons, etc. upon entering Severance Music Center. Call or locate the appropriate staff, musicians, or visitors within the building, and relay messages to ensure visitors to the building can conduct necessary business.
  • Monitor the security camera system. Report any suspicious activity to appropriate manager.
  • Staff the security desk including sign-in responsibilities and badging for visitors and contractors.
  • Issue and collect key fobs and ID badges to authorized parties on a temporary basis so they may conduct business in Severance. Issue and collect radios to contracted Cleveland Fire Department and security personnel. Log each transaction following department guidelines at all times.
  • Accept and sign for deliveries. Call intended recipient or notify the appropriate party. Follow department tracking guidelines at all times.
  • Accept, label and log all lost and found items turned into Security Desk.
  • Monitor the dock door by means of a security camera. Provide admission to the building after properly identifying visitors and the nature of their business by activating the electric door lock release.
Patrolling Severance Music Center
  • Patrols assigned areas within the public space of the building to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses keys/card to open and close doors as requested; monitors building for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • First Shift Function: Unlock the designated exterior doors in conjunction with the opening of Severance. This is accomplished by means of rounds that are most commonly done at the beginning of the standard business day and/or event day. These rounds may also be enacted to ensure the building is secure during various times throughout the day.
  • Second Shift Function: Lock the designated exterior doors in conjunction with the closing of Severance. This is accomplished by means of rounds that are most commonly done at the end of the standard business day and/or event day. These rounds may also be enacted to ensure the building is secure during various times throughout the day.
  • Watch for irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel when appropriate.
  • May provide specialized security in complex operational areas, requiring specific knowledge of the operating environment.
  • Provide lockdown procedures once the building is closed, including rounds of each floor to ensure doors are locked, lights are shut off, and elevator is in a lockdown position. Final call made to UCPD that Severance is locked and secured for the evening.
Other Activities
  • Recognize and make appropriate decisions in matters regarding security, emergencies, building challenges and daily activities.
  • Fulfill participant role in Severance Music Center emergency response procedures.
  • Enter and post shift report.
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a position where responsibilities included security and hospitality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of MAA customer service standards which include the ability to deliver customer service that exceeds the customer’s expectations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work a flexible schedule, which includes days, evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow work schedule and to work within department guidelines/procedures relative to schedule requests and work absences.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate directions or information to our patrons, staff, and visitors in a courteous and gracious manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use a radio correctly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm during times of a life-threatening emergency whether it be an evacuation, medical, or other type of serious situation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use a computer to fill out shift reports, receive and send emails; generate an event schedule for use by the general staff.
  • Follow department apparel guidelines on a daily basis.
  • Obtain and maintain Active CPR and AED certification.
  • Maintain a friendly and responsive attitude.
